Tourism Minister Sucuoğlu meets Corendon Airlines officials in Antalya

Faiz Sucuoğlu, Minister of Tourism, within the frame work of his contacts in Antalya, met with the board members of the Corendon Airlines, which brings approximately twenty thousand tourists to North Cyprus per year. Minister Sucuoğlu and Şahap Aşıkoğlu, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism, had a long meeting with the Chairman of Corendon Airlines, Yıldıray Karaer and company officials. Minister Sucuoğlu noted that they put forward alternative solutions for the challenges that Corendon has been facing.

Saying that they would do their utmost to solve the problems, Sucuoğlu stated that they had negotiated about job opportunities and conditions, and a project to be launched in 2016.

Indicating that the Corendon Airlines are important in boosting North Cyprus tourism and their meeting was positive, Sucuoğlu emphasized that they are ready to do whatever they can to improve the country’s tourism. Yıldıray Karaer, Chairman of Corendon Airlines, stated that they manage to bring approximately twenty thousand tourists to North Cyprus despite oppression by the Greek Cypriots.

Sucuoğlu also met with Çetin

Faiz Sucuoğlu, Minister of Tourism, within the framework of his contacts in Antalya, also met with Davut Çetin, President of Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). Speaking at the meeting, Çetin indicated that they are ready for all kinds of co-operation with the TRNC in the tourism sector and said: “Antalya and the TRNC are two popular tourism destinations which offer different kinds of natural wealth. We can obtain joint achievements by combining our wealth”. Çetin said: “Collaboration will be beneficial for the tourism of not only Antalya, but of North Cyprus as well”.

Faiz Sucuoğlu, Minister of Tourism, also invited the tourism committee under the leadership of the ACCI from Antalya to the TRNC. Sucuoğlu said: “We should come together and discuss on which issues we can collaborate as soon as possible and take concrete steps”.

Support from Association of Turkish Cypriot Travel Agencies (KITSAB) to Tourists

The Association of Turkish Cypriot Travel Agencies Board of Trustees supported the efforts for enabling tourists who come from Turkey visiting the South side of Cyprus as a day-trip. According to the statement of KITSAB; this effort will be useful in terms of both serving for peace and contributing to the economy. The statement indicated: “Nowadays, within the context of confidence building measures, crossing to South Cyprus of tourists who come from Turkey will be a good study for visiting the monuments which belong to Muslims and having an idea of South Cyprus.”

Bi-communal Event to be held on 1 September

It is stated that a bi-communal event will be held in front of the Home for Cooperation (H4C) in the buffer zone on the occasion of the International Peace Day (1 September).

The event will be organized by several unions, such as the Pancyprian Federation of Labour (PEO), Turkish Cypriot Federation of Revolutionary Workers Union (DEV-İŞ), Turkish Cypriot Union of Public Employees (KTAMS), Turkish Cypriot Secondary Education Teachers’ Union (KTOEÖS), Municipality Workers Labour Union (BES) and Cooperative Workers’ Trade Union (KOOP-SEN).

It is also stated that as part of the celebrations of the International Peace Day, there will be a concert by Maria Faranduri and Zülfü Livaneli at Çetinkaya Stadium on 18 September, in addition to the event at the Home for Cooperation.

Halloumi decision from Court of Thessaloniki

The Court of Thessaloniki imposed a fine of 10 thousand Euros to a Greek company that has been producing halloumi cheese under the name of “halloumi” and banned the company from producing, distributing, selling, advertising or making import or export to the Greek market under the name of “halloumi”.

It is informed that Court of Thessaloniki imposed a fine on the company named “Filotas Belas and Sons Incorporated Company” because they produced and distributed the halloumi cheese unauthorized, which is presently under the effort for getting registered as “protected product of origin”, thus producing under the name of “halloumi” is banned in Greece.
