Little Society of Kyrenia

Helping Esentepe Primary School

By Margaret Sheard….

The Little Society of Kyrenia are doing wonderful LSOK imagework for the young generation of North Cyprus and we are pleased to be able to bring yet another of their good works to the attention of our worldwide readers.

LSOK – helping another school

By Mary Watson….

Over the last three and a half years the Little Society of Kyrenia has donated around 700,000TL to a number of different projects, mainly relating to children.  The organisation, which recently achieved charitable status, believes that children are the future of the island and if they can make a contribution to their education, health or well being it will be of real benefit to their lives.

Many of their donations have been associated with schools and their latest project is supporting Esentepe Primary School.  Two years ago LSOK sponsored a number of children from the school to attend the Esentepe Fun Run and Ramble and donated a sound system so that the students could practise their dancing for Children’s Day.

Now they have given 5,000TL towards tables and benches for their new canteen.  On Thursday 30th July, on behalf of  LSOK I had the pleasure of presenting the cheque to Mehmet Karaali, the Head Teacher, Hasan Ergurer, the Deputy Head and Turkmen Kim the Chairman of the Parent’s Association.  In my speech I said “The school has worked hard to raise funds for the canteen.  Previously, when it is raining, the children have had to stay inside during their lunch and break time or go outside and get very wet.  We like to support organisations that are prepared to fund-raise themselves and are delighted to make this donation to help the children”.

We are also showing below a video which was made by Graham Brown of Esentepe Community to record this lovely event and you can also visit his website by clicking here
