41st Anniversary of
Peace and Freedom Day
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is preparing to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day.
The Peace and Freedom Day celebrations began with the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Rally.
On Sunday the 19th of July President Mustafa Akıncı will address the nation on Bayrak Radio Television following a 21 gun salute at noon.
His speech will mark the beginning of the celebrations in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
On the same day separate ceremonies will be held at the Boğaz Martyrdom, Dr. Fazıl Küçük Monument and the Rauf Raif Denktaş Monument.
The ceremony in the Old Harbour of Girne including the performance of the Turk Yıldız Solo aerobatic teams (Turkish Red Stars and Solo Turk) will begin from 4pm on Sunday.
On the 20th of July the ceremonies will begin at 4pm in the afternoon.
The first ceremony will take place at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Monument at 4pm.
The celebrations will climax at the Doctor Fazıl Küçük Boulevard.
This year’s celebrations at the boulevard will take place at 5pm.
During the celebrations here a representative from the Republic of Turkey government and President Mustafa Akıncı will deliver speeches.
President Mustafa Akıncı and his wife Meral Akıncı will give a 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day reception at 8.30pm at the Presidential Palace.
