Eide: “The present situation is a real opportunity to solve the Cyprus problem soon”
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kocias, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide said he was briefed on the Greek Cypriot administration’s positions with regard to the Cyprus issue. Eide noted that the international community was doing all it could to help support a settlement in Cyprus and the present situation was a real opportunity to solve the Cyprus problem soon. Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kocias, Eide said that he will meet with the Greek Cypriot Leader Anastasiades and President Mustafa Akıncı today, and said that he now sees “a spirit of trust and cooperation” between the two Leaders.

President Mustafa Akıncı will receive UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide today before meeting the Greek Cypriot Administration Leader Nikos Anastasiades on Wednesday.
Nami: “Negotiation process is going on positively”
Turkish Cypriot negotiator Özdil Nami stated that presently there was a positive process on-going and whatever had been achieved up to now is being looked over. He said: “The most important thing is the process after this and the start of the give and take process.” He added that he hoped this positive atmosphere would continue after this and he also said that they are trying their best for improving the negotiation process on a sound basis as soon as possible. Turkish Cypriot negotiator Özdil Nami who spoke to BRT yesterday assessed the work of the technical committees and touched on the negotiation process. Nami said they were going over the issues and noted that there would be another Leaders’ summit on Wednesday. He said like at the previous Leaders’ meeting, the negotiators would be submitting the Leaders with a joint report; this time it was Nami’s turn to make the presentation he said. He explained that the technical committee had begun their work as well and it was the first time yesterday that the Technical Economic Committee held their first meeting. Concerning the property issue, Nami noted that a similar working group would be convening next week.
Koenig visits Harmancı
Relations with Nicosia Mayor Yorgacis, works towards opening of alternative crossing points and joint possible projects were discussed at the meeting.
Contribution of President Mustafa Akıncı for solution of the Cyprus problem was also discussed during the meeting.
Expressing that a new motivation for a solution has occurred in both communities, Mayor Harmancı said there are still many complicated issues to be overcome regarding the Cyprus problem.
