Olgun: “It is very disadvantageous to discuss the territory issue now”

Former negotiator Ergün Olgun told that it would be disadvantageous Ergun Olgun imageto discuss the territory issue now, since it was decided to be discussed at the final stage.

Former negotiator Ergün Olgun evaluated the recent statements of Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Kasoulides that the leaders would be moving on to the issue of Governance, Property and Territory when they meet on the 17th of June.  Olgun said that with this method the Greek Cypriot side would have achieved to move on to the Territory issue without making any progress in the Governance and Power sharing chapters and added that thus they are trying to negotiate the matters of maps and figures on an equal basis with the other issues.(Kıbrıs Postası)

Akıncı: “We desire a solution based on equal partnership”

President Mustafa Akıncı pointed out that Turkish Cypriot community has been kept out of international law and he said Mustafa Akinci 2“It is a matter of our usurped rights. We desire a solution based on equal partnership.”

President Mustafa Akıncı made a statement to the press at İstanbul Atatürk Airport yesterday before going to New York upon the invitation of the UN Secretary- General Ban Ki Moon. Akıncı pointed out that Cyprus negotiation process has been continuing for many years and no result has been achieved up to now.  Akıncı also stated that he wishes to protect the rights of both sides, to create a new settlement in cooperation and to establish a much better future for the next generations in the new process.

Moreover, Akıncı stated that solution parameters are clear and the latest conclusive framework was on the 11 February, 2014.

Civil Aviation Cooperation Protocol was signed between the Republic of Turkey and the TRNC

The Civil Aviation Cooperation Protocol was signed between Minister of Public Works and Communications Hasan Taçoy and Turkish Minister for Transport, Maritime and Communications Feridun Bilgin.

Bilgin expressed the desire for the TRNC to have a modern, strong and secure infrastructure in the fields of communications and transportation. Reminding that the joint committee was established with the aim of identifying the opportunities and needs of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transportation and Özkan Yorgancıoğlucommunication, he said the committee is continuing with its studies.

Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu for his part stressed the importance of works being carried out towards developing the relations between Turkey and the TRNC and touched upon the significance of investments and information transfer being made by Turkey in the fields of land and sea transportation.

He also expressed the hope that cooperation in the field of civil aviation will contribute greatly to the development of the sector in the TRNC.

EP President and UN Special Envoy for Cyprus meet in Brussels

Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulzwill meet today in Brussels with Espen Barth Eide, UN Special Adviser to the Secretary General on Cyprus.

A press release by the EP says that Schulz and Eide will hold a joint press conference following their meeting.
