Akıncı and Anastasiades to meet at a dinner tonight

President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades will meet at a dinner tonight. The dinner which will be held at the Ledra Palace Hotel at the buffer zone tonight will be hosted by the UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide. Following the meeting, the leaders are expected to make a statement about the date of resumption of negotiations and about how it will be structured.

Kiprianu: “Window of opportunity should be evaluated”

Secretary-General of AKEL Andros Kiprianu called upon Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades and said: “window of opportunity should be evaluated after Mustafa Akıncı’s Andros Kiprianurecent election as the leader of the Turkish Cypriots.”

Speaking in an interview wirh the Greek Cypriot Fileleftheros newspaper, Kiprianu made evaluations about the election of Akıncı and the Cyprus problem. Kiprianu emphasized that they couldn’t ignore the election of a leader who supports the comprehensive solution overwhelmingly by the Turkish Cypriots. Kiprianu stated that some evaluations such as ‘no matter who is the leader of the Turkish Cypriots, the last decision is made by Turkey’  is wrong.

Kiprianu also claimed that “there are important reconciliations between Talat and Hristofyas which were rejected by Eroğlu”.

Co-operation Agreement of GSM Operators in the near future

According to the Greek Cypriot daily newspaper Kathimerini, the meetings which were held by GSM operators Mobile phoneof KEVE and KTTO both in North and South Cyprus had positive results and the newspaper claimed that the co-operation agreement of GSM Operators is in the near future.

The newspaper also stated that it is believed that the legal factors will also be overcome and the agreement will be announced to the public by the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades and President Mustafa Akıncı at their first meeting.

Ban thanked to Eroğlu for “perfect” co-operation

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon sent a letter to the third President of the TRNC Derviş Eroğlu and thanked him for “perfect” co-operation within the period of his duty.

In his letter he emphasized that the joint statement put forward by Eroğlu and the leader of Greek Cypriot Administration Nikos Anastasiades in February, 2014 was an invaluable background in terms of the continuation of negotiations. Ban stated in his letter: “Mr.Derviş Eroğlu, I appreciate your perfect co-operation within the period of your duty and on the other hand I appreciate your eagerness in order to find a comprehensive settlement on the Cyprus issue and also I appreciate your sincerity at the leaders’ summit meetings in Geneva and Green-tree in 2011 and 2012.

He concluded his letter “even if you couldn’t reach a settlement on the Cyprus issue within the period of your duty, we have always been committed to this critical aim as the UN and we supported both of the communities at the resolution efforts in the Cyprus problem. In this context I believe that you will give support to the Cyprus negotiations in the following weeks and months
