Eide has arrived in Cyprus

UN Secretary General’s Special Advisor on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide Espen Barth Eidearrived in Cyprus last night. President Derviş Eroğlu will receive Eide at 12.00 today. Eide is expected to meet with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades before meeting with Eroğlu. Today, Eide will make a press statement at the UN Good Mission Office at the old airport in the buffer zone. According to the statement of the UN, Eide will continue his visits in Cyprus until Wednesday 8 April, in order to follow “encouraging indicators”. Eide will also meet with the Negotiators.

Dinçyürek: “Greek Cypriots will return to the table without precondition”

Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Hakan Dinçyürek said “the Greek Cypriot side will return to the Hakan Dinçyürektable without preconditions”. Dinçyürek evaluated the negotiation process and usage of natural resources to an AA reporter. Stating that according to some people, the Greek Cypriot Administration left the table when the “give and take” process started but some people consider that they left the table when a “win-win” process started, Dinçyürek said that the Greek Cypriot side left the table but in the following days, they will return to the table without precondition.

High Administrative Court: “Police promotional exam is against the law”

TRNC Police badgeThe High Administrative Court has decided that a police promotional exam was held contrary to the law in 2013. The High Administrative Court decided to cancel the promotional exams of 18 police. Chief Inspector Soyer Üstünışık filed a case against the Police Services Commission and the case was determined yesterday. If the decision which is taken by the judge of the Supreme Court – Tanju Öncül is approved at the Court of Appeal, promotional exams of 310 police held in 2013 will also be cancelled.

Warning from IMF to South Cyprus

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) gave a warning to South Cyprus for state assurances given to IMF logogovernment business enterprises, companies, other organizations and persons without following the necessary procedures and having sufficient supervision. According to the Greek Cypriot daily Politis, in its report prepared for South Cyprus regarding financial activities, IMF determined 3 billion Euros deficit caused by state assurances and within this context, IMF proposed to establish a “State Assurances Unit” to supervise the assurances.

A large number of immigration permits to third country citizens

Greek Cypriot Ministry of Interior is issuing a large number of Cyprus Flagimmigration permits to third country citizens. Greek Cypriot daily Haravgi noted that the process to give immigration permits to investors should be completed within two months following the application process. The newspaper stated that 43 immigration permits were issued in 2012,  911 from May to December in 2013 and 524 permits issued from 1 June 2014 up to the present in South Cyprus. Furthermore, it was stated that granting citizenship to investors in South Cyprus is a serious problem but the Greek Cypriot government avoids giving information on the issue.

Greek Cypriots conduct a religious ceremony at Ay Mamas Church

Greek Cypriots conducted a religious ceremony at Ay Mamas Church in Güzelyurt yesterday. The Russian Ambassador to South Cyprus – Stanislav Osadchiy also attended the religious ceremony in Güzelyurt.
