Turkish water is coming to Cyprus

Project of the Century

By Chris Elliott……..

We wrote with great enthusiasm this week (click here) about the reported comments of the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc who said: “It’s all over, water reached Cyprus. Next step is to perform distribution and water management” Towing pipes towards Cyprusand this sentiment it seems was received with equal enthusiasm by the thousands of readers of our article. The Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc continued in his speech:

“Now, we can say with pride that Turkish technology and contracting services are in the first three in the world. There is no doubt that we perform much bigger capacity contracting services in different areas.  By increasing these kinds of examples in maritime areas, we will come to an exceptionally strong point. Nearly 75 million cubic meters of water per year will be taken to Cyprus from Turkey. It’s all over, water reached Cyprus. Next step is to perform distribution and water management.”

Living here in Northern Cyprus the ongoing progress of this fantastic project is never far from our minds as we see huge pipes being laid along the side of highways or stockpiles of pipes waiting to be laid and the excitement and anticipation is growing. When our friends from The Foreign Residents in The Turkey to TRNC Water Projectthe TRNC took 3 groups of visitors to visit the complex in May 2014 their Secretary Ralph Kratzer wrote then about their experiences and the sense of awe at the size of the project click here

Nearly a year on now and yes the impossible is being achieved and we are so close now before Turkish water flows from the taps across the island and we hope to bring you further reports on this in the near future and in the meanwhile from the videos below you will understand the importance of this life changing project to the island of Cyprus.

  1. Thank you for sharing this article and video film Chris. We talk about water supplies all the time, but rarely do we think of the modern technology, danger and hard work that lies behind such a massive undertaking.

    1. That’s right Ismail, folk think they just turn a tap and its there and then perhaps complain about the cost without knowing what it will be!

Without doubt this project as it goes online with the completion stage will herald a major change in the prospects and life of all Cyprus people that embrace it.
