Rotary 110th Year Anniversary at The Dome Hotel, Kyrenia

By Margaret Sheard….

It was party night at the Dome Hotel in Kyrenia for the Rotary Club of Kyrenia Liman on Friday 27th March to celebrate 110 years of Rotary.

The room looked very elegant with beautifully decorated tables and during the evening we were treated to music by Andrew Sings….. with a more upbeat tempo later for those who wanted to dance.

Malcolm Mitcheson, the current President of Rotary Club of Liman, welcomed everyone and thanked them for joining this celebration.

We enjoyed the lovely meal and the music of Andrew and Glen and during the evening more guests arrived.  This was Mustafa Nasereddin, the District Governor 2015-16 of Rotary in Jordan, who had travelled from Amman and was accompanied by other Rotary members.  Mustafa gave a short speech saying how pleased he was to be able to visit on an informal basis and that he looked forward to coming to Cyprus again in the future.   There was a presentation made to Rahmi Ozsan in recognition of his efforts of increasing the Rotarian membership.

There then followed a lovely anniversary cake which was cut by Malcolm Mitcheson and Mustafa Nasereddin and later the guests had a piece to enjoy.

There was much conversation on the various tables and it was nice to see some familiar faces from other Rotary events we have attended.

The Rotary was founded in Chicago, USA in 1905 and the Foundation has awarded more than US$2.1 billion in grants.  The Rotary clubs exist to improve communities through a range of humanitarian, intercultural and educational activities.  Rotary addresses critical issues at home and abroad by providing health care and medical supplies, clean water, food, job training, youth development and education to millions of people in need.

There are approximately 1.2 million Rotary club members in 34,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries.

We were honoured to be invited to join the Rotarians to celebrate their 110th anniversary and have great admiration for the wonderful work being done by Rotary clubs worldwide for mankind.
