Foreign Minister Nami receives MUSIAD Cyprus Delegation

Minister of Foreign Affairs Özdil Nami received the President of Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MUSIAD Cyprus) Okyay Sadıkoğlu and Board members Fikret Unutmaz and Hüseyin Zabitoğlu in his office today.

During the meeting, contributions which can be made by MUSIAD towards lifting isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriots and the activities possible to be realized within this year were discussed.

Navtex Lie

Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades held a press conference last night at the Greek Cypriot Presidential Palace for both Turkish Cypriot and Turkish press members to express his views on the Cyprus problem.

Anastasiades said that the reason he withdrew from the negotiations was the Barbaros entering into the Greek Cypriot maritime waters.

Upon Havadis reporter Esra Aygın’s reminding that everything made today including Navtex was made in 2011 but Hristofyas didn’t leave the table, Anastasiades said that the Navtex in question is limited around the waters of Northern Cyprus.

Havadis newspaper stated that the Navtex document belongs to 2011 and did not only include maritime waters in the North part of Cyprus, as Anastasiades expressed, but also included the areas identified by Republic of Cyprus and block 12 where Nobel energy was doing research .

During his press conference, Anastasiades also said that during his Moscow visit to be held on 25th of February, he will sign a series of cooperation agreements, military cooperation agreements existed for years and they will only be renewed and provide ease in extraordinary situations for Russian air and sea forces.

Mass Grave in Paralimni

It was claimed that in “Paralimni” town in Famagusta district in the Southern Cyprus, a mass grave was found belonging to 13 Turkish Cypriots who were killed by Greek Cypriots in the year of 1964.

Greek Cypriot Haravgi newspaper noted that in accordance with the information gained from Greek Cypriots who experienced the period of 1964, The Committee on Missing Persons carried out excavations at the area of Laksia in Paralimni, and reached the bones of a third missing Turkish Cypriot till now as a result of excavations.

According to the newspaper the grave is believed to have the bones of a fourth Turkish Cypriot, the Committee received the information about the area that 13 Turkish Cypriots were buried, so it is believed that there are more mass graves.

According to the news, information received by the committee was that 13 Turkish Cypriots working at the Famagusta port in 1964 were killed by Greek Cypriots and were buried in the area.

World Peace and Technology Experts to meet in Nicosia for a Conference

The second “Build Peace” conference will be held on 25-26 April in Cyprus with the aim of increasing the effect of information and communication technologies as games and communication networks on peace building initiatives.

The conference will bring together 250 peace and technology experts, academicians and activists from 30 countries.

The activity which will be held both in Northern and Southern parts of Nicosia walled city, is supported by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Regarding the activity, Programme Manager Cristopher Louise said “Both Cyprus’ geographical position between Europe and the Arab countries and knowledge and experience wealth of Cypriot civil society towards peace initiatives, makes Nicosia a unique venue for the conference.”

Louise also added such an important event will be a great opportunity for learning and sharing for both Cypriots and the International Community.
