The Foreign Residents in the TRNC (TFR)
Glögg from Santa Claus
by Ralph Kratzer
A sure sign that Christmas is just around the corner is the annual Glögg afternoon of the association The Foreign Residents in the TRNC (TFR).
Last Friday the event was held for the third time and meanwhile is an integral part of the annual events calendar of the club.
Glögg is the Scandinavian variation of mulled wine and is an excellent thing to generate some warmth and comfort on cold winter days.
To find out what Glögg exactly is and how it is prepared, please read my last posts about this topic. You can even find a video about the production of the speciality. Click here for the recipe and click here for the video!
About 40 members of the TFR met at the Acmenya Restaurant in Alsancak in the afternoon and “Santa Claus” Horst, the treasurer of the club, has become a professional in the field of the preparation of the popular “winter warmer”. Believe me, this beverage really heats! Already after the first mug I had to take off my warm flannel shirt, the T-shirt underneath was completely enough to keep me warm!
The Glögg along with Christmas cookies on the table provided good mood among the guests, even the bad weather of recent days could not do anything about it.
Let’s see if the mulled wine in Germany and the UK, which I will soon enjoy, can keep up with our Northern Cypriot – Scandinavian speciality!
