North Cyprus Cancer Charity Trust

Annual General Meeting

By Margaret Sheard….

The NCCCT had their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 16th December at 2pm at The Pia Bella Hotel in Girne.

There were sufficient numbers of the committee present to enable the NCCCT logoAGM to take place and this was chaired by Marion Stuart.  The previous AGM minutes were discussed.  One of the items which arose previously was having a membership but it had been decided not to go ahead with this.   A further item which arose was having a meeting with various doctors for their opinions on the equipment which had been donated to Girne State Hospital and the Chairperson – Angela Hasman said that this is to be arranged at some time in the future.  The previous minutes were approved and the meeting continued which covered the period from 1st August 2013 to 30th June 2014.

It is hoped that the monthly bingo nights can be re-instituted and Carole Lloyd said she would be happy to run them again but a suitable venue needs to be found.  Mehmet said he was looking at a facility at the old Girne Hospital building where the Heartbeat shop is located and he needs to check this out but volunteers may be needed to redecorate.

It is also hoped to have a Fashion Show in 2015, an event which has been popular in the past, and a suitable venue is to be found for this to take place.

Angela Hasman gave her Chairman’s report and Laura Curry gave a Secretary’s report and Treasurer’s report, both of which functions she undertakes.

During the year equipment has been purchased and donated to Girne State Hospital, including reclining armchairs, laparoscopy equipment, eye equipment, all of which have been gratefully received NCCCTmembers present Molemax to Dr Beyoglu and Fatma Denizand it is so rewarding to know that the proceeds raised at various events is doing so much good for the hospital.  Angela mentioned that she was thrilled to have been told that the Molemax machine donated to the hospital had detected serious cancer in some patients and so the equipment has in fact saved lives.

Laura Curry advised the meeting of the new website which is being built and donated by cyprusscene.com and its associated websites.  The new website is almost complete and will include all of the previous events and presentations which have been published on the various websites.   After some initial training from Chris Elliott and Margaret Sheard, Laura will then keep the website updated with news for NCCCT supporters.

It is hoped that in 2015 NCCCT will be able to purchase Tomography equipment which is something the hospital could well benefit from, however, this is a very expensive piece of equipment costing in the region of £80,000 sterling so it is so important to keep fundraising at the top of the list.

l-r Mehmet, Pauline, Laura, Sandra, AngelaAngela thanked the committee members for all of their hard work during the year and especially Laura who undertakes 2 roles very efficiently and Mehmet for his hard work at the Heartbeat shop and his contributions at coffee mornings which are so much appreciated.

The committee was voted to continue en-bloc, and includes 3 new committee members, who could not be present on this occasion, these are Wendy Anderson, Cathy Dunbar and Lynda Cook.

A nice touch at the end of the meeting, Mehmet produced a lovely Christmas cake and we all enjoyed a slice with our coffee.

The venue for the January 2015 coffee morning is still to be confirmed but all of the committee of NCCCT hope that its supporters will continue to attend these events and others which will be arranged during the coming year.
