Anniversary of the Establishment
of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
The 31st anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has been celebrated with several ceremonies and activities.
The celebrations officially began with an address to the nation by President Derviş Eroğlu on Bayrak Radio Television Corporation. A 21 gun salute followed President Eroğlu’s speech.
High level officials from Turkey and other countries have also been attending this year’s republic day celebrations.
Two separate ceremonies were held in the capital Lefkoşa, the first at the tomb of the late Turkish Cypriot leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük [first Vice President of the former Republic of Cyprus 1959-73] and the second at the tomb of the [TRNC] founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş.
On Saturday morning President Derviş Eroğlu received well wishers at the Presidential Palace.
In the afternoon, Solo Turk and the Turkish Stars aerobatics team performed in the Girne skies.
The inauguration ceremony of the monument of the late Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş at Ercan Airport was held on Sunday.
