Nicosia C.C. and Limassol
Moufflons play in
the UN Buffer Zone
TRNC’s Keith Lloyd said he was delighted to have been appointed as neutral umpire in last Sunday’s Creditwest North Cyprus Cricket League match between the South’s Nicosia C.C. and Limassol’s Moufflons in the UN Buffer Zone,
Keith said he knew the game would be keenly contested, particularly as the Moufflons need league points following their defeat by the TRNC the previous week.
Seb Pollington won the toss for Nicosia and decided to bat. The conditions were difficult with a very long outfield following the recent heavy rain.Nicosia buckled down to their task batted sensibly, accumulating 201 runs for the loss of 9 wickets from their 30 overs. A superb 57 from Williams was well supported by Brown with 39 and a robust 26 from Brearley.
Moufflons’ bowlers stuck to their task. Rafique had the best figures of 3-33, as well as a terrific catch, but the outstanding bowling was by Nakul who took 2 for 20 from his 6 overs.
The Moufflons reply disintegrated abjectly in the face of excellent pace bowling by Mostert (2-22) and the clear man-of-the-match Williams, who followed his half century by taking 5 for 11.
The only resistance came from Muhammad with 17 as the team collapsed to 41 all out. Nicosia gained 30 points for the win; Moufflons just 4 bonus points.
Keith Lloyd finally said if Nicosia play like they did today, they could be the League’s surprise package and win it.
