Turkish Republic Day

The 91st anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic will be marked with ceremonies in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus alongside Turkey.

The ceremonies began with a televised message by the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Halil Ibrahim Akça on BRT.

Atatürk_2In his speech he said that he was happy to be able to celebrate the 91st anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey here with the Turkish Cypriot people.

Touching upon the Cyprus issue Mr. Akça said that the Republic of Turkey with a constructive approach supported a solution being found to the Cyprus problem.

‘We will not tolerate the Turkish Cypriot people being forced to return to pre 1974 conditions’ said Akça adding that the ultimate aim of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side was for a comprehensive and permanent solution being found to the Cyprus problem.
He said that Turkey will continue to support the TRNC in order for it to strengthen its foundation and develop and in order for the Turkish Cypriot people to reach the prosperity they deserve.

The Ambassador’s speech was followed by a 21 gun salute.
Tomorrow morning the Turkish Ambassador will receive well wishers at the Residence of the Turkish Embassy.

Within the framework of the celebrations, two separate ceremonies will be held in the capital Lefkoşa.
The first ceremony will take place in front of the Atatürk monument and the second ceremony will be held at the Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard.

As part of the events, the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Band will perform in front of the Atatürk monument in Girne and the Turkish Security Forces in Cyprus Band will perform in Gazimağusa.

Ceremonies will also take place in other towns and cities of the Republic.
