Little Society of Kyrenia is making a

difference

By Mary Watson

Hello readers,

I thought you may be interested on some of the work that LSOK has been doing during the summer. Our main project has been to support the Caglayan Orphanage in Lefkosa, a children’s home with about 25 children aged between 3 and 17. We wanted to give them new experiences and asked the children what they would like to do. As a result we paid for 12 children and 5 adults to spend 2 nights at Balci Plaza in the Karpaz where they enjoyed the beaches, different scenery, great food and even karaoke!

We also supported a group of children attending the recent Turtle Fun Day at Lapethos Aqua Park in Lapta where Little Society of Kyrenia lrgthey enjoyed a good lunch. It helped to raise money for the work of the Society for the Protection of Turtles (SPOT) and gave the children an appreciation of the importance of marine life.

Lastly we arranged for the children to have their art work laminated and the pictures are attached. They are displayed on the walls of the orphanage, which will make them feel really proud of their achievements.

Education is one of our priorities. The children attend a variety of schools and we would love to provide additional English and maths classes for them. We are having some difficulty in identifying relevant teachers and perhaps anyone interested could ring Mary Watson on 0533 865 5837.

On a different note we became aware that the family of Ismail, the young amputee and cancer sufferer, no longer had a fridge that worked and we were pleased to give them a new one. Who would like to live without a fridge at this time of year?

Kind regards

Mary Watson
