Moon: “Lasting solution in Cyprus is the strategic priority of UN”

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon stated that reaching a lasting solution in Cyprus is more important than ever because of great turmoil in the region.

Secretary General Ban met with his newly appointed Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide. The meeting was closed to the press. According to the statement obtained from the Spokesmanship of the UN General Secretariat, Ban emphasized that the UN will continue to give full support in order to achieve a comprehensive solution in Cyprus.

On the other hand, Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay stated that ‘UN Secretary General’s emphasizing the importance UN gives to the solution of the Cyprus problem’ and ‘UN’s stating that the gains achieved up to today should be preserved’ are very meaningful.

Foreign Minister Özdil Nami went to London this morning.

Minister Özdil Nami will have high level contacts in London and also will meet heads of NGO’s representing Turkish Cypriots who live there.

Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry – Erhan Erçin, Private Secretary – Hüseyin Özel and Political Expert İpek Borman will accompany Minister Nami during his contacts.

“The USA is doing what the EU cannot or does not want to do”

Turkish EU Minister and Chief Negotiator – Volkan Bozkır said: “USA realized present interests in Cyprus and progress has been started in Cyprus due to the intervention of the USA. The USA is doing what the EU cannot or does not want to do”.

In the statement given to a news agency, Volkan Bozkır pointed out that the negotiations in Cyprus are their parameters.

He said “There are some factors for the solution of the Cyprus problem, including territory and ports. We always made efforts to keep the negotiations and their factors concerning the solution of the Cyprus problem separate from the effects of the Cyprus problem on the EU negotiation process. In order to open a chapter, the provision of opening of Gazimağusa port is invalid, it can never be implemented and it is not an adequate subject for opening a chapter. Opening of Maraş (Varosha) as a residential place and some territorial exchanges should be dealt with altogether so that we can solve the Cyprus problem. One of the important factors cannot be separated from the others for just opening a chapter not even for the EU membership. There is nothing Turkey can give for this. We are explaining this. The Cyprus problem should stay in its own parameters and should be solved.

Solar vehicle will represent TRNC in the world solar vehicles rally

RA 25, the solar vehicle designated and produced by AR-GE teams of Near East University (NEU) will represent the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the world solar vehicles rally to be organized by International Automobile Federation (FIA) between the dates of 27 September to 4 October in the Republic of South Africa.
