House opens with a Spectacular

Girne American University (GAU) Cultural Heritage Management has revived the Nicosia region through the restoration and renovation of the Arabahmet Culture and Art House.

Outside Arabahmet Culture HouseThe opening ceremony of the Arabahmet Culture and Art House, which was a project for renovation by GAU Cultural Heritage Management, was attended by Nicosia Turkish Municipality Mayor – Kadri Fellahoğlu, Foundations Department Chairman – Rauf Ersenal, GAU Board of Trustees President – Memduh Erdal and his wife the artist Sevim Erdal, GAU Founding Rector, Chancellor of the Board and Cultural Heritage Management President – Serhat Akpinar, GAU CEO and Vice Chancellor of the Board – Assist. Prof. Dr. Asim Vehbi, Vice Chancellors of the Board Cemile Esenyel and Olgun Üstün, GAU Rector – Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner, together with the Regional and GAU Global Science Family.

Arabahmet Culture and Art House, which embodies a theatre hall, exhibition hall, art library, toy museum and workshop centre, is hosting free activities of amateur theatre groups, schools and civil society organizations.

Akpınar, “We will protect such a beautiful cultural heritage with great responsibility

GAU Founding Rector, Chancellor of the Board and Serhat AkpinarPresident of the Cultural Heritage Management – Serhat Akpınar stated in his speech at the opening ceremony that the restoration of Arabahmet Culture and Art House is part of the Cultural Heritage Management and Research Program of the University.  Akpınar expressed that they feel proud to open an historic building for the use of civil society organizations and art and cultural communities.

Akpınar thanked the Arabahmet Company and other institutions who had offered the opportunity to restore the building and stated that they will protect such a beautiful cultural heritage with great responsibility.

Ergüçlü  “I am longing for the old days of history and culture flowing through the Nicosia streets”

Cyprus Media Group Chief Editor – Süleyman Ergüçlü congratulated all of the organizations, particularly GAU, which had contributed to the restoration of the Arabahmet Culture and Art House and thanked them for providing this beautiful event.Cotton Candy

Ergüçlü who noted that he wandered the streets every day to breathe in the smell that he felt was incomplete when he wasn’t able to as a Nicosian in the city, and stated that he longed for the old days of history and culture flowing through Nicosia.

Ergüçlü noted that the doors of the jasmine-scented streets of Nicosia, are still wistfully open to the older residents who left Nicosia.

Ersenal “Restoration of the region will make an important contribution to the country’s tourism”

Foundations Department Chairman – Rauf Ersenal expressed that Cutting the ribbonArabahmet Culture and Art House restoration excited him and thanked everyone who contributed, particularly GAU Founding Rector and Chancellor of the Board – Serhat Akpınar.

Ersenal, who indicated that he believed the restoration of the region will make a significant contribution to the country’s tourism, stated that with the restoration of the Armenian Monastery, they will try to bring many museums to the region.

In his speech, Özkan Öke, one of the traders in the Arabahmet region, spoke of his childhood days which had passed in this region.

Öke stated that he played various games such as “marbles (pirilli), lingiri, and blind man’s bluff (körebe)” in these Paintingsstreets where his happy childhood days had been spent.

After the opening speeches, the opening of Arabahmet Culture and Art House was conducted by GAU Founding Rector, Chancellor of the Board and the Cultural Heritage Management President Serhat Akpınar, GAU Board of Trustees President Memduh Erdal’s wife – Sevim Erdal and Foundations Department Chairman – Rauf Ersenal.

Also at the event, the opening of the Children’s Toy Museum and Monart Art Gallery Exhibition was held.
