Restoration of Apostolos Andreas Monastery is going to start in September
The Head of the Religious Affairs – Prof. Dr. Talip Atalay said that restoration of Apostolos Andreas Monastery is going to start in September.
Answering the questions of TAK Agency related to the issue Atalay said that the restoration is going to last for 2 years and Vakıf Foundation and Greek Cypriot Orthodox Church is going to pay 2.5 million Euros each. Atalay said that the meeting they had with Archbishop of Cyprus Greek Orthodox Church – Hrisostomos was very fruitful and they discussed a few problems at the meeting which was held closed to the press.
Eroğlu: “Anastasiades is stricter than Hristofias”
President Derviş Eroğlu said that Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiades is stricter than former Greek Cypriot leader Hristofias. Eroğlu stressed that if the Greek Cypriot side does not put obstacles, it will be possible to reach a solution in the island.
Meeting with citizens yesterday, President Eroğlu gave information regarding the stage reached in the negotiation process and answered the questions. Reminding that there are six chapters at the negotiation table, Eroğlu stressed that the proposals of Greek Cypriot side, especially on the issues of ‘Property and Territory’, ‘Citizenship’, ‘Guarantees’ and ‘Administration and Power Sharing’ are not acceptable.
Özersay. ‘Turkish Cypriot side tries to move Greek Cypriot side from 2008 to 2014’
Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay said that Greek Cypriot side does not accept convergences reached in 2008 that is why the Turkish Cypriot side tries to move the Greek Cypriot side from 2008 to 2014.
Adding that although the sides have reached an agreement on the issues of Federal Police and equal representation in internal security in 2008, Özersay said that the Greek Cypriot side does not accept them now. Following his meeting yesterday with the Greek Cypriot negotiator – Andreas Mavroyannis, Özersay made a press statement. Expressing that they have set the dates of meetings for the negotiators and the leaders, Özersay said that the leaders will meet on 4th and 7th July. Indicating that there will also be cross visits to Athens and Ankara, Özersay said that the negotiators will meet on 23rd August and the leaders will meet on 26th August.
