NCCCT Coffee Morning at Park Marine,

Girne

By Margaret Sheard

The NCCCT Coffee Morning for the month of June was held at the Park Marine Restaurant  in Girne.  I have often driven past the entrance but as the restaurant lies way Inside dining areaback off the road I had no idea what it was like and so I had the opportunity to check it out.

I was amazed at what a lovely place the Park Marine is, the building itself is very old and beyond this is a large outside area which overlooks the sea, a really beautiful setting. There is plenty of parking, although with the number of people who attend the coffee mornings, the car park was rather full but there is also a lot of space under the trees alongside the long driveway so no problem with parking.

Sock MonkeysThe coffee morning was being held in the inside covered restaurant area although there were plenty of seating arrangements outside as well and here the many stalls were set up with clothes, ceramics, greeting cards, books and much more and I sat and spoke to a lady who makes lovely toy sock monkeys in a huge variety of colours, they are very cute.

Angela Hasman welcomed all of the supporters of the charity and thanked them for giving their continued support and Secretary, Laura Curry, joined her with Roy Ashton for the presentation of a cheque for 2,390TL which Roy raised from his tandem paraglide, together with 2 others who were also raising funds for other charities.  I spoke with Roy later and he said, apart from the numerous delays due to the weather, he really enjoyed it and would certainly do it again. He also tried to talk me into it, so maybe one day!

During her welcome message, Angela also mentioned Janet Chapman who is now retiring from her position as Treasurer of NCCCT and thanked her for all her past hard work and gave best wishes for the future.  The current Secretary, Laura Curry, will also take over the Treasurer’s role for the time being.

The raffle was drawn with some nice prizes being won.  There were around 100 loyal supporters present and a total of 2,048TL was raised for the charity.

This was the last coffee morning for the season and the events will resume in September after a break from the heat of the summer.  Details of the September date and venue will be published in due course.

The NCCCT Bingo will continue through the summer and the next bingo night will be on Monday 16th June at 8pm at The Pine Bay Hotel, Alsancak.  The jackpot stands at 1,200TL so why not go along and try your luck, even if you don’t win, it is a nice evening out in good company.

  1. Well done with the fundraising. The venue looks really good.
Can you give me directions from the Pia Bella island to Park Marina restaurant please ?

    1. It was a lovely venue. From the Pia Bella island go towards the New Harbour and take first turning on right (crossroads) and you will see the sign to the entrance of Park Marine Restaurant a little way along on the left. It lies off the road with a fairly long driveway.
