Foreign Minister Nami makes statements about the current stage of negotiations

Minister of Foreign Affairs – Özdil Nami attended a program on Sim TV and made a statement about the current stage of negotiations. Nami said that the Ozdil Nami image 3Greek Cypriot side’s putting forth proposals on the negotiation table that the President of Cyprus can be elected with votes of all citizens and by principle of simple majority makes it impossible to say that negotiations have been continuing from the previous stage.

Moreover, expressing that although 4 months have passed since the signing of the joint statement, a new consensus has not been reached and on the contrary the previous consensus has begun to disappear. FM Nami added that the joint statement only is not enough because there is UN Acquis and convergence papers coming from the past and if they are disregarded, the process will result in great harm.

Turkish Cypriot negotiator Özersay meets with LidingtonKudret Özersay 3

Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay met with UK Minister for EU Affairs – David Lidington at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Özersay stated that during his meeting with Lidington, they discussed the latest stage reached in negotiations and how the process can proceed within the framework of the Turkish Cypriot side’s vision for a solution and how to get a result.

Moreover, Özersay added that he met with the new High Commissioner of Cyprus within the framework of his London contacts.

Greek Cypriots will perform religious ceremony at St. Barnabas Monastery

Greek Cypriots are going to perform a religious ceremony at St. Barnabas Monastery tonight and tomorrow morning (10th and 11th June 2014).

Archpriest Ioannis will conduct the religious ceremony.

Turkish Cypriot negotiator – Kudret Özersay met with the British Minister for Europe David lidingtonLidington at the Foreign Office.

Özersay who is in London at the invitation of the UK’s Minister for Europe said that during their meeting the two discussed the latest state of the negotiations, Turkish Cypriot solution vision and how the process can move forward.

Following his meeting with Lidington, Özersay met with the Director of European Affairs at the British Foreign Office where ideas on several headings of the negotiations were exchanged in detail.

On Wednesday (11th June) Özersay will also deliver a speech at the contact meeting which will be held for the Turkish Cypriots residing in the UK.
