Bayrak International Road Show
in Bariş Park, Girne

One of my favourite places to go is Bariş Park in Girne where there always seems to be some event or activity taking place and as a development project, the Girne Municipality have done a superb job in creating this large park for both locals and visitors to enjoy.
On Saturday 31st May 2014 I went along to see Can Gazi and the Bayrak International Road Show which had come to the park to provide entertainment for the 
afternoon as well as supporting SPOT, the “Society for Protection of Turtles”.
When I arrived the event was just getting underway and Can was on a big stage starting to entertain the visitors with many of the favorite tunes he broadcasts on his radio shows plus he gave lots of amusing and informative comments that kept the visitors entertained.
Can Gazi then introduced SPOT project leader Robin Snape who talked to the visitors about SPOT and the work they do to protect turtles. Also on hand to give support to Can were other BRT radio personnel including Nevra Çağlar and Denise Phillips who had come along to meet their fans and also enjoy the fun of the afternoon’s entertainment.
With Can Gazi was Barry Snakes who had come along as mentor and sound man to support James Gray who has had a meteoric time since he started to play drums with the Foreign Nationals band in 2013 and has now developed his musical talents further by playing keyboard and today he was playing the guitar and singing. James is now playing drums with the Snakebite band and will also be playing rhythm guitar and singing with the Renegades band both of which will be playing in the Girne Amphitheatre in support of Bon Giovi on the 12th July.
In the background small children were being entertained on the Municipality Merry-go-Round, Trampoline 
and the Puffing Billy train that was going around the park and increasing the excitement of the afternoon’s entertainment were performances by the Girne Municipality Modern Dance Group and three dance group performances from Necat British College.
For me I enjoyed a performance by Amelia from Necat British College who sat and played guitar and sang with such a powerful and beautiful voice.
It was now time for me to leave before the early evening’s entertainment and as I wandered away under the overhanging trees I could see people sitting chatting over coffee at the nearby park cafe and as I passed the waterfall near the small pool I could see families having fun in the children’s playground.
Another feature of the park I like is the small zoo and I was able to take some nice pictures of peacocks and a very proud Turkey cock who was strutting around looking very important.
So the day ended and I must say a very big thank you to Can Gazi and friends from Bayrak International for bringing lots of fun to the park and helping support the work of SPOT – the Society for the Protection of Turtles
