New era Cyprus negotiations

The second of the Cyprus workshop which was organized by the Girne American University (GAU) Political Science and International Relations Club was held at the GAU Millennium Senate Congress Hall.

AKP Deputy – Bülent Tuğran, CHP Deputy – Mahmut Tanal and MHP Vice President – Ruhsal Demirel participated as Speakers at the 2nd Cyprus Workshop which was held to discuss New Era Cyprus Negotiations, Energy Security and Turkey’s Perspective of Cyprus. Vice Chancellor of the GAU Board – Olgun Üstün and Rector – Prof. Dr. Yıldırım Öner attended the workshop on behalf of GAU which received great interest from academicians and students.

Vice Chancellor of the GAU Board – Olgun Üstün, who commenced his speech by thanking the participants,  pointed out the importance of mentioning the energy sources in Cyprus and the water from Turkey at the workshop.  Olgun stated – “We will have the chance to learn of Turkey’s outlook regarding the new era of the Cyprus negotiations through the government and the main opposition lawmakers.”

Founder President of Aydın University Political Science and International Relations Club – Mevlüt Soylu, President of Bahçeşehir University Political Science and International Relations Club – Burak Ozturk, President of the Beykent University International Relations Club – Erdem Kerpişçi, President of the Culture University International Relations Club – Aysima Selin Ozturk and President of Okan University Strategic Studies Community – Tuğçe Sena all gave a speech at the first session of the workshop which was entitled.”Young people discuss the Cyprus Problem” .

In the 2nd session of the workshop, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Deputy – Mahmut Tanal stressed in his speech that the TRNC foreign policy is actually Turkey’s foreign policy.  Tanal who stated that the political power by far has never changed the foreign policy regarding Cyprus, criticized the government and claimed that there is no progress on the Cyprus issue although the AKP government has been in power for a long time.

MHP Vice President – Ruhsal Demirel who emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot community is not in the place it deserves to be, stressed in his speech that intensive work needs to be done in this regard and pointed out the importance of the water which will be transferred from Turkey.

AKP Deputy – Bülent Tuğran indicated that the Cyprus Peace Operation has helped society to step forward and stated that leaders who can take risks for the solution of this problem are needed. Tuğran stated that they desired the Cyprus problem to be resolved as soon as possible.

The workshop ended with the Vice President of GAU Board of Administrators – Olgun Üstün presenting an appreciation plaque to AKP Deputy – Bülent Tuğran, CHP Deputy – Mahmut Tanal, and MHP Vice President – Ruhsal Demirel and to the club representatives of the universities.
