North Cyprus Children – Are You Smart?

We have been told about a fundraising initiative with a difference and this is aimed at the younger generation to see how effect
ive they are when it comes to fundraising.
Carole King and Sue Tilt, who do so much work for Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips), have come up with a fabulous scheme for schools and schoolchildren in the Girne and Lefkoşa areas and this involves that much loved confectionary “Smarties”.
This is the basis of the project:-
Carole and Sue will take full Smartie tubes into selected schools where they will be distributed to the children, who then take them away and “empty” them (yum, yum…..), that is the easy part….. The children then are being asked to see their friends and family and fill the Smarties tube back up with 50 kurus coins. The tube will take 54 x 50 kurus coins, equating to 27TL. The children then bring the tubes back into the schools and Carole and Sue will collect them.
Every child that brings back a full Smarties tube will have their name put into a Prize 
Draw and will have the chance to win a very nice prize. However, every 50 kurus collected will be so very, very much appreciated.
An anonymous sponsor has given 5,000TL towards the cost of the 5,004 Smarties tubes which have been purchased.
The Schools which are participating in this event are: ESK Secondary, Necat British College, GAU, NEU College, NEU Elementary, TED and Levent Elementary School and College.
The Smartie tubes are being delivered to the schools on the 27th February and will be collected back on the 13th March.
It is felt that involving children in fund-raising activities is important but it is also good for them to have an understanding of charities and what they are trying to achieve and who they help, but at the same time it is important for the fund-raising activities to be fun.
What a brilliant idea this is, the children will certainly enjoy tucking into the Smarties and then will be able to contribute something for the benefit of the community by raising funds for Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips).
