14 Syrian refugees saved off Karpaz
14 Syrian refugees including six children were saved by the coast guard in North Cyprus after the speedboat carrying them ran out of fuel.
According to a news report in Havadis, captain Habib Ayar called for help from the coast guard 11.3 nautical miles from the Golden Beach area in Dipkarpaz. Ayar was detained after the coast guard discovered that there were 14 Syrian refugees on board.
The refugees are currently being held at the Iskele police station. Havadis reported that the refugees had paid 2 thousand dollars each to the human traffickers.
