CESV Race Night at The Lodge, Çatalköy

We were delighted to hear from our friends in the TRNC Civil Emergency Service Volunteers (CESV) about the fund raising race night they had recently and we are pleased to share with our readers the fun and games of this very special night.

By Clair Lamb (CESV)

On Saturday night at The Lodge, Çatalköy, all were under starters orders ready to place their bets for a fun night to raise funds for the CESV. The aim of the evening (apart from to have a great time) was to raise funds to help the CESV provide equipment such as neck collars and frac-paks to the TRNC ambulances.

Gurk and his team provided a delicious meal while Gary Here comes the winner! smlwas the main man taking those all important bets. Tension was in the air and the excitement mounted as the races unfolded. Eight races were shown and the horses raced to the finishing line spurred along by cheers and whoops of delight and ending with cheers or howls depending on who the winner was!

Before the last race ran a raffle was held with a selection of goodies on offer such a meal at Al Shaheen, George’s Cafe or Stevie’s Restaurant, Kucuk Erenköy. Other choices included bottles of wine, chocolates and a homemade cake which was won by one of the CESV members, who then kindly gave it to Gurk to share with his staff who worked so hard to help make the night a success.

The night was rounded off with a disco and karaoke. Unfortunately we left after the races so missed seeing Mr Collard belt out his rendition of “Always look on the bright side of life”! Sounds like a good philosophy Steve.

A big thank you goes out to Gurk and his staff, Gary and his team and to Steve Collard, Nigel Reeves, Andy King and Brian McCreath for organising the event and of course to all those who attended and helped the CESV raise a grand total of 1816 TL helping us to help the community.
