North Cypriot Public Service to be reformed

North Cypriot Public Service

to be reformed

The Public Servants Draft Law, which is considered to be the most important law within the framework of the public administration reform envisaged for Northern Cyprus, has been approved by the council of ministers and sent to parliament.

According to the news report in the Yenidüzen newspaper, the draft law includes provisions on putting an end to the employment of temporary public servants, narrowing down the possibility political appointments, doing away with the adviser system that allows political appointees to continue to be paid without being actively involved in public administration, enabling promotions based on merit, allowing mobility between institutions and improving social rights.

The draft law, prepared by the European Union Coordination Centre in consultation with trade unions and other stakeholders, is seen as a first step towards a modern public administration.
