PRESIDENT EROĞLU BRIEFS PARLIAMENTARY PLATFORM
President Derviş Eroğlu briefed the Parliamentary Platform yesterday about the latest developments on the Cyprus issue.
In his speech following the meeting, Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu said that the Greek Cypriot side has not given any response for the joint statement but a settlement should be reached as soon as possible.
‘The Greek Cypriot side should give a response as soon as possible and negotiations should start’ Yorgancıoğlu stressed.
Moreover, the Leader of Democrat Party-National Powers (DP-UG), Serdar Denktaş pointed out that all parties proved their support for both the proposal and President Eroğlu. Denktaş also expressed that the joint statement should be approved by the Greek Cypriot side and negotiations should start as soon as possible.
The Leader of National Unity Party (UBP) – Hüseyin Özgürgün stated that they came together to evaluate the last stage on the Cyprus issue. Adding that President Eroğlu briefed the Parliamentary Platform about the joint statement and stated that Turkish Cypriot side was waiting for a response, Özgürgün said that they could meet again in case of any development.
The Leader of Communal Democracy Party (TDP) – Cemal Özyiğit noted that the draft statement is parallel to TDP’s views and the Turkish Cypriot side should not take any step back on the joint statement.
JEROME CHAMPAGNE VISITED FOREIGN MINISTER ÖZDİL NAMİ
A delegation from the Cyprus Turkish Football Federation (CTFF) Administrative Board, and Jerome Champagne, advisor of CTFF at FIFA and UEFA, paid a visit to Foreign Minister Özdil Nami in his office under the presidency of CTFF President Hasan Seroğlu.
Speaking during the meeting, Sertoğlu expressed to Champagne that during and following the ‘Provisional Arrangement for Football in Cyprus’ an agreement process was signed with KOP in Zurich which would integrate Cyprus Turkish Football with the world, the greatest support was given by Nami. Thanking Nami once again, Sertoğlu also gave information regarding the latest stage reached.
Champagne also spoke during the meeting and briefed the work he has been conducting at FIFA and UEFA on behalf of CTFF since 2007. Champagne added that both in the Okutan and Adal period similar initiatives were realized, but the agreement text signed in Zurich has been better than the others so far. Champagne also thanked Nami for his support and receiving him in his office.
Nami stated that he met with Sertoğlu before Zurich, expressed his experiences during the process of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly where the Turkish Cypriots were represented and reminded that the points which they should take into consideration were similar. Nami continued that he was ready to give all kinds of support to CTFF in the following process upon their request. Nami ended his speech by informing the CTFF delegation about the latest stage in the Cyprus issue.
