Fans of our both websites cyprusscene.com and tfrnorthcyprus.wordpress.com are the Animalcouriers.
So once again I visited their website too and found pictures which made my eyes fill with tears.
As some of our readers may remember I have lost my two beloved dogs in the past, both of them violently. My boy “Sputnik” was shot in January 2011 by a so called “hunter” in the mountains of Alsancak with no reason, the other one, my girl “Laika”, was mauled by a free running fighting dog in the summer of this year ( to remember – click here! ).
And now I found the pictures shown below of rescued dogs from the streets of Athens on the blog of Animalcouriers. I feel both sad about the remembrance of my pets and happy that these two dogs seem to have found a new home with the help of the organisation.

Eleni was found wandering in the streets of Athens. When she was first brought to the shelter she was one of the most scared dogs they had ever seen. She managed to jump out of a two-metre high cage, so had to be moved to a cage with roof to begin with. Little by little she became more confident and is now a sweet, calm dog. She’s been adopted by Jodie who lives near one of the Animalcouriers offices, so we hope we’ll bump into her when we’re out shopping!

This is an incredibly kind post but we must point out that we don’t do the important work! The animal rescue operations in Greece: for example Nine Lives Greece (http://www.ninelivesgreece.com/en/), The Filozoikos Shelter (http://www.friendsofanimals-nf.com/index.html), PAWS (http://www.paws.gr/) and of course KAR (http://www.kartrnc.org/) on the TRNC are the people who should be lauded. We are privileged to be part of the process of bringing these animals to the UK to their forever homes.
