Friends of the TRNC Emergency

Services

A Good Time Was Had By All

By Margaret Sheard

Unfortunately, we are not able to attend all of the many events which are being held which means we are unable to write a personal follow-up article. In these cases we have to rely on the organisers sending us some news of how the event went and we were pleased to receive an update from The Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services in respect of some of their recent activities.

One of the highlights was the “Relive the 60’s Night” which was held at The Relive the 60'sMountain View Hotel in Karaoğlanoğlu and this is what the organisers had to say about the event.

The venue was bedecked with images of all the stars of that era set off with effect lighting and Ban the Bomb signs which had many people relating stories of the marches that they took part in more years ago than any of us cared to remember. Werner and his Steam Machine disco played all those old favourites from way back when and Jan Parkinson sang songs of the era backed by Mike Mansfield on the guitar which had many of the audience singing along.

A delicious buffet supper was served to complete the evening and ‘The Friends’ were pleased to announce that the evening had raised 1,990TL which Werner made up to 2,000TL by donating another 10TL”.

A really good result which must make all of the hard work worthwhile.

I am rarely able to get to the Quiz Nights, although I reaQuiz 1lly must try as it is something I enjoy and gives a chance to tax the brain. The latest Quiz Night was held at The Ravine in Alsancak and it seems that it was another fun-packed evening.

“Then on Monday 28th October over 70 people arrived at The Ravine Restaurant for the 112 Monthly Quiz – all the usual light-hearted fun was enjoyed with Richard’s quirky questions together with a delicious fish and chip supper and the usual raffle.

The evening raised another 700TL – all the money raised will go towards the purchase of more equipment for Girne Hospital’s Accident and Emergency department which is undergoing a major refurbishment at the moment.

Sadly, this will be the last 112 Quiz at The Ravine for a while as it is closing for theQuiz 2 winter to enable Mustafa to receive medical treatment – we all wish him well and hope to see him back in the not too distant future. The quizzes will continue, however, and news of the new venue will follow shortly”.

As soon as we receive news of the new venue for the Quiz Night, we will publish this and it will also appear in our weekly Events Calendar.

There are yet more events which have been arranged by The Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services so if you haven’t yet made a diary note, this is to remind you:-
