Addressing the Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis, President Dervis Eroğlu has said: “Let’s put an end to this problem and let the world talk about ‘Cyprus settlement’ instead of the ‘Cyprus problem’. Let’s transform our beautiful island into an island of peace and stability for our people, motherlands and the region”.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony held in Lefkoşa in order to mark the 90th Anniversary of foundation of the Republic of Turkey, Eroğlu said that the time which has passed and every missed opportunity were against a consensus in Cyprus and the 50 year old Cyprus problem became chronic and the people were losing their belief in a solution.

Eroğlu said that the foundation of the Turkish Republic was the result of the struggle against imperialism at the beginning of the 20th century and it was one of the most important incidents experienced in world history. Eroğlu expressed that the stage reached by the Republic of Turkey after 90 years displayed more clearly the importance of the State established under the leadership of Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriots were going to celebrate the 30th anniversary of foundation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus after a while, Eroglu recorded that if the Turkish war of liberation had not happened and the Turkish people had not broken the chain of slavery, the fate of the Cyprus Turkish people was clear.

Expressing: “If the Republic of Turkey was not established, then the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus would not exist”, Eroğlu mentioned that Cyprus was a national cause and progress of the Cyprus issue, by following the path of peace and democracy and protecting the people’s long term benefits, was closely related not only with the Turkish Cypriot people’s future, but also with the future of Turkey.
