PRESIDENT EROĞLU MEETS WITH ERIC RUBINCyprus

President Derviş Eroğlu met with U.S. Department of State Deputy Assistant Secretary of Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Cyprus John E. Koenig and Presidential Spokesman and Special Representative Osman Ertuğ also attended the meeting which was held at the Presidency.

The committee also held a short meeting with Osman Ertuğ following their meeting with the President.

FOREIGN MINISTER NAMI TO GO TO ANKARA

Minister of Foreign Affairs Özdil Nami goes to Ankara today (8 October) upon the invitation of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.

During his stay in Ankara, Foreign Minister Nami will also visit Anıt Kabir, lay a wreath at the mausoleum of Atatürk and sign the Book of Honor.

Nami will come together with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and address the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of  Turkey tomorrow.

After completing his contacts in Ankara, Foreign Minister Nami is expected to return to the TRNC on Thursday (10 October).

ERTUG: “PREPARATION PHASE CAN BE FINALIZED TOMORROW”

It has been stated that Special Representative of the TRNC President Dervis Eroglu, Osman Ertuğ and Special Representative of the Greek Osman ErtugCypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiadis, Andreas Mavroyannis came together last night at a dinner hosted by the UN’s Special Advisor on Cyprus, Alexander Downer within the framework of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem.

Speaking to the Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Kıbrıs’ after the meeting, Ertuğ said that they would like to finalize the preliminary preparations of the negotiations which were envisaged to resume within this month and bring the leaders together.

Stating that it was early to say that the preliminary preparations for launching the negotiations shall be finalized tomorrow, Ertuğ mentioned that the extension of the process was due to the differences in the positions of the two sides.

Ertuğ said: “Studies about the joint statement are continuing. We will come together on Wednesday to finalize it. All of our efforts are intended to bring the leaders together because this process is maintained by the leaders and therefore will be resumed by them” and recorded that he hoped they would finalize the preliminary preparations tomorrow.
