PRESIDENT EROĞLU: “ANASTASIADES SHOULD ALSO MAKE A COMMITMENT”
President Derviş Eroğlu pointing out that he gave a written commitment to the UN Secretary General towards continuing the negotiations from the point they ceased after he was elected as President said, the Greek Cypriot Administration leader Nikos Anastasiades should also make the same commitment.

President Derviş Eroğlu, who is in New York to hold contacts within the framework of the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, made a statement to TAK and BRTK reporters during his visit to the TRNC Representative Office in New York.
Stressing that it is high time for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, President Derviş Eroğlu said “ We, as the Turkish Cypriot side are continuing the negotiations with good will. The Greek Cypriot side should change its negative stance. The generations are changing. We do not have another 45 years to lose”.
President Eroğlu, noting that despite the consensus reached towards restarting negotiations in October, it is upsetting to observe the Greek Cypriot Administration leader Anastasiades’ failure to demonstrate a clear stance to this end and added that the Turkish Cypriot side was ready to continue the negotiations from the point they ceased. The President said “the progress achieved could not be put aside. It is important to reach a solution immediately by maintaining progress on the remaining main issues.”
Eroğlu noted that following the negotiations in New York, he expected the Greek Cypriot Administration leader Nikos Anastasiades to be prompted for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem.
Eroğlu also noted that he would raise his views on these issues primarily to the UN Secretary General and during all his other contacts in New York.
President Eroğlu is expected to meet with the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Co-operation, Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, today (24th September) and participate in the reception to be hosted by the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the United Nations in honour of Turkish President Abdullah Gül.
DAVUTOGLU AND VENIZELOS AGREED ON RECIPROCAL VISIT OF REPRESENTATIVES TO TURKEY AND GREECE
Turkish Foreign Affairs, Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, who is in New York in order to attend the meetings of the UN General Assembly has met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Greece, Evangelos Venizelos, and discussed the Cyprus issue.

Davutoğlu and Venizelos agreed on the reciprocal visit of special representatives of Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders to Turkey and Greece for the solution of the Cyprus problem.
Both Ministers expressed their opinion on starting and finalizing the negotiations in the island as soon as possible.
Evaluating the issue to Turkish Cypriot, Daily Kıbrıs, TRNC President Dr. Derviş Eroğlu’s Special Representative, Osman Ertuğ, indicated that the current development is a matter desired by the Turkish Cypriots.
Stating that Turkish Cypriot side responded with a request for a meeting with Greece in return for the continuous request made by the Greek Cypriot side for a meeting with Turkey however this has never been accepted, Ertuğ said: “We were insistent that the negotiations should be on the basis of equality. Therefore, such an arrangement has been made. This is an important development”.
