2013 – TRNC HAS NO PLAN FOR
OPENING OF VAROSHA
DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER DENKTAŞ IN KUTAHYA
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports Serdar Denktaş held a series of contacts in the Turkish city of Kütahya.
As part of his contacts, Denktaş attended a working dinner organized by the Anatolian Development and Co-operation Association.
Speaking at the working dinner Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Tourism, Culture and Sports, Serdar Denktaş, said that relations which will be established with the Turkic states under the leadership of Turkey would help the Turkish Cypriot people in terms of cultural, economic and political means.
Touching upon the Cyprus issue, Denktaş remarked that the negotiation process aimed at solving the Cyprus problem will begin in October.
Noting that the Cyprus issue has remained unsolved for nearly half a century, Serdar Denktaş said ‘this time we will see whether the Greek Cypriots will share something with us or not’.
Within the framework of his contacts in Kütahya, Serdar Denktaş also met with the Kütahya Governor Şerif Yılmaz and attended various opening ceremonies.
NAMI: “TRNC HAS NO PLAN FOR OPENING THE CLOSED CITY OF VAROSHA”
TRNC Foreign Minister Ozdil Nami has said: “We do not have any intention or any official plan regarding the opening of the closed city Varosha under the Turkish authority and returning the city to its former owners”.
Foreign Minister Ozdil Nami received the Chamber of Architects delegation from the Union of the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects under the presidency of Azmi Oge.
Recording that he is following the work of the Chamber of Architects closely, Foreign Minister Ozdil Nami stated that they are ready to contribute to any work whether in the country or abroad.
Upon being asked whether the news in the press that the Turkish side has a plan regarding Varosha is right, Ozdil Nami replied that they do not have any plan or proposal as it is in the press.
Expressing that they are following the agenda which is being tried to be created about Varosha, Nami continued: “We do not have any intention or prepared any official plan regarding the opening of the closed city Varosha under the Turkish authority and the returning of the city to its former owners”.
Stating: “The Turkish side considers the negotiation process as reaching a comprehensive solution”, Nami continued: “We think that working in a disciplined way and focusing on a comprehensive solution is necessary. What should be done is to protect the convergences that have come out so far and plan a fast process which will focus on the rest of the issues”.
Adding that the projects which will make the opposite side act negatively, are not on their agenda, Nami said: “We are also motivating the opposite side to work with a good will and to be result-orientated”.
RESTORATION OF APOSTOLOS ANDREAS MONASTERY WILL START
Turkish Cypriot Evkaf Foundation has signed a protocol with the EU-funded United Nations Development Program, Partnership for the Future (UNDP- PFF) for the restoration of Apostolos Andreas Monastery situated in Karpaz.
The 5 million Euros restoration project to be run by the UNDP-PFF will be carried out within the framework of the project prepared by Patras University in Greece and the rules determined by Cultural Heritage Technical University.
Representative of the UNDP-PFF, Tiziana Zennaro, and director of the Turkish Cypriot Evkaf Foundation, İbrahim Benter, made speeches at the ceremony organized for signing the protocol.
Tiziana Zennaro expressed her feelings for being a part of such a project and stated that they will work within co-operation for the protection of the cultural heritage of Cyprus.
On the other hand, İbrahim Benter thanked everyone who had contributed to the project. Stating that the Evkaf Foundation had always protected the cultural heritage from Ottoman times, Benter pointed out that they will work for protecting the cultural values.
