“IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO ACCEPT THE ISLAND TO BE USED AS A STEPPING STONE”

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned the citizens of the TRNC not to travel to Syria and Egypt except in essential cases and called those TRNC citizens who are already in these countries to leave as soon as possible.

Pointing out it is on the agenda that in a possible military strike the British Bases in Cyprus will be used, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “It is not possible to accept the island to be used as a stepping stone in such initiatives which has the danger of aggravating the present military strife in the region”.

In the written statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it was said that the serious inner conflict experienced in Syria and Egypt recently is being followed with sadness and concern.

It was stated: “In this frame, our Ministry needed to warn the citizens of the TRNC not to travel to Syria and Egypt except in essential cases and called those TRNC citizens who are already in these countries to leave as soon as possible”. The statement continued: “Also, our business people who still consider to have work and investment or to realize commercial relations in Syria and Egypt should be more cautious due to the high risk of the region”.

Remarking that the death toll in Syria and Egypt is increasing day by day, especially children’s loss of life and the claims of use of chemical weapons in the internal conflict in Syria create serious concerns, the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued: “In this case, the possibility of foreign intervention to these countries is becoming stronger as the days go by. It will be the right way if the Syrian and Egyptian regimes follow a peaceful road to provide inner peace in their countries and take the necessary steps urgently, and this would be a good attitude to defeat the possibility of foreign intervention. Moreover, the use of the British Bases on the island against Syria has been on the agenda.  It is evaluated that if the intervention to Syria becomes essential, it can be the best attitude to intervene within the framework of international rules under the umbrella of the United Nations.

ATASOY WANTED USA TO SUPPORT TRNC

The head of Turkey Confederations Society, Nezaket Emine Atasoy, received the Undersecretary Diplomat of the USA Embassy,  Dorothy Ngutter  on behalf of the USA Ambassador.

According to the statement, having wanted the USA Ambassador, Dorothy Ngutter, to spend effort for the solution of the Cyprus problem, the Head of Turkey Confederations Society, Nezaket Emine Atasoy, said ‘the USA should support the independence struggle of the Turkish Cypriots. The embargoes imposed on the TRNC should be lifted’.  Atasoy also added ‘the USA should accept that there are two States and Communities in Cyprus’.
