The Greek Cypriot present policy is delaying the negotiations as much as they can. Firstly they brought economical problems on the agenda. However we also experienced economic problems, but we did not postpone the negotiations. The banks gone bankrupt, citizens busted the assembly in 2000, but Rauf Denktaş still met with Klerides. The Greek Cypriot side is not willing for a solution. The Greek Cypriot side is pleased with the political status quo. They are glad to be the representative of the island in the international arena. They are not ready to share power with the Turkish Cypriots.

Foreign Affairs Minister Kutlay Erk said that the Greek Cypriots’ demand of Varosha is also a tactic of delay. Emphasizing that the Greek Cypriot side is trying to create an artificial agenda towards internal and foreign public with their own scenarios regarding Varosha issue, Erk recorded that the Greek Cypriots are putting forward some issues as an excuse with the aim of delaying the problem. Erk also added that Rolandis said: “The Turkish Cypriots offered Varosha seven times, but we did not accept it…”

Stating that the Greek Cypriot side anticipates the future with war not with peace, Kutlay Erk continued as: “They consider the future as if there will be a war. So, they are making cooperation with Israel, China and many other countries and providing military base opportunities for Russia and France in order not to be defeated. Therefore they are making war exercises with these alliances.
