ERTUĞ: “VAROSHA IS PART OF A COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION”

Presidential Spokesperson and Special Representative, Osman Ertuğ, said that Varosha is the part of a comprehensive solution and added that the Greek Cypriot side should discuss her proposals with the Turkish Cypriot side on the negotiation table.

Indicating that the Greek Cypriot side put the Varosha issue on the agenda and thus created an artificial agenda, Ertuğ stressed that the real issue which should be discussed was the delaying tactics of the Greek Cypriots.

Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot side published some news about giving military and naval bases to the Russian Federation, Ertuğ added that the authorities they met last week in Moscow said that this was not true.Osman Ertug

Ertuğ : “Every nation determines a policy within her own political interests. Our policy is to protect the rights of the island, the motherlands, the whole region and the international delicate issues. We expressed these to the Russian Federation.”

Telling that the Greek Cypriot administration Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulidis stressed that the Varosha issue is the part of a comprehensive solution and Kasoulidis also said that they were ready to sit on the negotiation table without a precondition, Ertuğ asked:“Then why don’t they come to the table and make the Varosha issue a precondition. We are waiting for a reply.”

Ertuğ also said that the side which supports and accepts the UN documents is the Turkish Cypriot side and added that the Greek Cypriot side which refused a solution should make the real gesture.

Ertuğ indicated that the Greek Cypriot side has been delaying the date of negotiation by showing the economic crisis as an excuse and added that recently they have postponed the negotiations to October.

Ertuğ : “They are making fruitless discussions such as will it be a ‘special representative’ or will it be a ‘negotiator’. The important thing is the authority and representation of the person who will be given the mission.”

Ertuğ said that 15th July was the anniversary of the Greek Coup in 1974 and added that it was necessary to remind the historical realities and how Cyprus has come to the point it is at today and by whom.
