The Nook Cafe, Ozanköy

By Margaret Sheard

I previously wrote an article for a local newspaper about village life in The Nook CafeOzanköy which featured a cafe in the centre of the village. This changed hands in October 2012 and is now called The Nook Cafe and it is run by Gail Morris who looks after her customers with an excellent lunch or snack or just a beer or coffee for those people who want to stop off for a chat.

I recently went with Chris for a late lunch and we decided to eat on the roof terrace, but it was a windy afternoon, as we have been experiencing lately, so there was a bit of Roof Terrace at The Nookamusement with the large umbrellas taking off but this did not spoil our excellent meal, which we thoroughly enjoyed. There were some other people there as well having a drink and catching up with the local news so we had a chat with them before our meal arrived.

Gail is an excellent cook and there are a lot of good things to choose Menufrom such as – lasagne, burgers, quiche, jacket potatoes with a choice of fillings, English breakfast and much more, all well cooked and nicely presented. The Nook cafe is open from 12 noon to 6pm for meals and from 6pm to 12 midnight for drinks only. When there are special events Gail serves free mezes, prepared by the locals, to the customers.

Gail was a driving instructor in the UK and she also achieved a distinction in music technology at Highfields College in Huddersfield where she lived. She is the mother of Niall aged 17 and Amber aged 16 who both Niall (left) Gail (centre) Amber (right)attend the American College (GAU).

While we were talking to Gail she said she had recently had a visit from BRT television and our friend Engin Dervișașa proceeded to film for his TV production Vox Pop. We now know that this will be shown on Sunday 9th June at 1pm and will be repeated on Tuesday 11th June at 1pm.
