FULE LAUNCHES INITIATIVE

It was claimed that EU Commissioner Responsible for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, has launched an initiative to put the proposal into practice which was submitted by the Greek Cypriot side and includes the opening of Ercan Airport to Stefan Fuleinternational flights in exchange for the closed city Varosha.

Under the headlines  “Varosha and Ercan on the Agenda – Fule Undertakes Initiative For Both Sides- Ercan is Dependent on a Condition”, Greek Cypriot daily Politis noted that the Closed City Varosha Issue is on the agenda to form a basis for solution of the Cyprus problem that’s why Fule has launched an ititiative on the issue.

Moreover, Politis noted that the process to examine the proposals including the Varosha issue and the Cyprus issue has started with the good offices of Fule during the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member countries and the candidate countries realized in Brussels short time ago.

OBSTACLE FROM GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE

The Greek Cypriot Administration is continuing to prevent its citizens to apply to the Court of Justice of the European UnionImmovable Property Commission by ignoring the decisions taken by the European Court of Human Rights.

According to Greek Cypriot radio, it was decided to establish an inter party commission in order to investigate Greek Cypriots’ mass applications made to IPC for their old properties left in the TRNC.

The Greek Cypriot radio also announced that the issue was taken up in detail during the meeting of Greek Cypriot political party leaders chaired by Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Anastasiadis.

WS JOURNAL: “THE BANKS OF SOUTH CYPRUS ARE AN ABETTOR IN MONEY LAUNDERING CASE HEARD IN NEW YORK”

In a major money-laundering indictment unsealed in the U.S. federal court in New York, it was stated that South Cyprus, which claimed in the negotiations made with European Union that money has not been laundered, was used for money laundering.

According to the news of Wall Street Journal newspaper with the heading of ‘Liberty Reserve’s Cyprus Connection’, the indictment charges a group of men with money laundering conspiracy for allegedly operating a money transfer service called Liberty Reserve that moved funds by means of a bespoke virtual currency

According to the indictment, the company in question gave way to move money earned from credit-card fraud, online Ponzi schemes,US Dollars child pornography and other crimes without being detected by law enforcement.

According to the indictment, after U.S. authorities warned financial institutions about Liberty Reserve, the indictment alleges three suspects — Arthur Budovsky, Azzeddine El Amine and Allan Esteban Hidalgo Jimenez — for emptying Liberty Reserve’s bank accounts in Costa Rica of millions of dollars and transferring the money first to a bank account in Cyprus held in the name of a shell company controlled by Budovsky and El Amine, and then to a bank account in Russia held in the name of another shell company.

In the indictment, it was stated that the suspects whisked more money away by moving it into dozens of shell-company accounts in Cyprus, Hong Kong, China, Morocco, Australia and Spain.

It was also stated that the U.S. government is seeking forfeiture of assets controlled by Liberty Reserve and the other defendants.

The indictment lists 45 bank accounts with assets the government alleges are linked to criminal activity. Four of twenty-two accounts are in Cyprus, at four banks in the names of a dozen shell companies.

WORLD BODY BUILDING AND FITNESS CHAMPIONSHIP IN TRNC

TRNC Barbell and Body Building Federation organised the World Body Building and Fitness Championship in Northern Cyprus. 19 countries from all over the world participated to the championship.

Prime Minister İrsen Küçük made a speech in the opening of the championship and said that the TRNC is eliminating the unjust embargoes by international sports organisations and underlined that the championship took place in Russia last year and 16 countries participated however this year 19 countries participated.
