The Foreign Residents in the TRNC – TFR
Some days ago, paying my water bill at the Alsancak Belediyesi, I got the latest issue of the “Alsancak Express”, the newspaper of the Municipality.
The headline was “Mare Monte gets ready for summer”.
Mare Monte is the name of a former tourist hotel and bungalow complex and now of the Alsancak Municipality’s public beach.
Today I have been to the Mare Monte beach in Alsancak to have a short look at it.
As published in the “Alsancak Express” the whole beach was again cleaned by the Belediye workers, parasols and sunbeds are provided and the nice little beach bar, run by the authorities, is ready to start its business.
If you are not bothered by the nearby building sites of the new Merit Hotel complex you will find a beautiful clean sandy beach with no entrance fee, a spacious car park (no shade for the cars), showers and toilets.
A sunbed costs 2.50 TL a day and the prices in the beach bar are absolutely affordable, eg 1 bottle of beer 5 TL and the different snacks (Döner, meat skewers, burgers, meatballs, sandwiches) between 8 TL and 12 TL a portion!
It is worth going there, thanks to the effort of the Alsancak Belediyesi, if you like to have a quiet rest and a relaxing swim, it is better to go during the week or early morning/late evening at weekends because daytime at weekends it may be a little bit crowded…..
To find the beach, follow the sign “ALSANCAK HALK PLAJI” on the main coastal road.
Good to know that this delightful beach will be used again. In the 80s it was a popular place to go.
Thank you for your comment Pamela, do you have any pictures of the 80s from when you were here?
