It was a long hard journey for a group of concerned friends who started to lobby for the introduction of an emergency telephone text system that would enable people to text their blood group and local hospital detail to a database with the aim being to “Save a Life”.
Where a specific blood is urgently required, the hospitals will alert the holders of 
the emergency telephone database and a text is then sent to suitable donors asking them to provide emergency donations.
So it was that on Tuesday 23rd April a presentation was held at the TRNC Health Ministry when the Health Minister, Dr. Ertuğrul Hasipoğlu was delighted to receive a delegation led by Steve Collard who presented posters which had been designed by Semin Başsezen a year 7 student at the English School of Kyrenia to help promote this scheme.
Also on hand to celebrate the final approval and acceptance of this scheme, were 
sponsors, Fevzi Tanpinar, Deputy General Manager from Telsim and Suphi Çildir, Financial Control and Operations Manager from Creditwest Bank together with many other people who were involved in making this very important life saving initiative a reality.
When the scheme was first introduced 37 people recorded their details and this number has since risen to 70 people. A growing number but many more could register to help save a life and perhaps it may be you tomorrow who needs blood so please ask your friends and family to register now as a donation can Save a Life!
