EROĞLU: ‘I HOPE WE DETERMINE A ROAD MAP ON 29 MAY’
Stating that he will meet with the Greek Cypriot leader, Nikos Anastasiadis, on 29th May, President Derviş Eroğlu said: ‘I hope we determine a road map regarding the Cyprus negotiations’.
President Derviş Eroğlu mentioned the Cyprus problem in his speech made during the opening ceremony of the 12th Eco Day organized
in Büyükkonuk.
Eroğlu said that he was going to meet with the Greek Cypriot leader, Nikos Anastasiadis, at a social activity on 29 May and wished to determine a road map regarding the Cyprus negotiations.
Moreover, stressing that they had previously agreed to meet with Anastasiadis in April but the meeting was postponed, Eroğlu said that the Greek Cypriot newspapers wrote that 29th May was the anniversary of the conquest of Istanbul and it was a wrong date.
Indicating to the Greek Cypriot news, Eroğlu said: “This means that an excuse can be found for each day. The important thing is that we can meet on 29 May and determine a road map’.
ÖZGÜRGÜN WILL PARTICIPATE IN IDEF-2013 FAIR’
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Huseyin Özgürgün, is going to Istanbul today to participate in the IDEF-2013 International Defense and Industry Fair.
Özgürgün will participate in the ‘welcoming dinner’ hosted by the Turkish Minister of National Defense, Ismet Yılmaz, at Kalender Orduevi Bogaztepe Residence in the honour of ministers who will participate in the fair.
According to the information given by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Özgürgün will also participate in the reception which will be hosted by the Minister of National Defense, Ismet Yılmaz, at Cıragan Palace tomorrow night. Özgürgün is expected to return to the TRNC on Wednesday night.
The Director of Public Relations Office Fatma Demirel and his Executive Assistant Durali Guclusoy will accompany Özgürgün during his contacts.
EUROPEAN COURT REFUSED DEMAND OF SOUTH CYPRUS
In the Greek Cypriot news dated 3 May 2013, it was pointed out that the Greek Cypriot Dairy Products Organization’s case which was filed to 
refuse the resolution of the European Union General Court regarding ‘German Garmo AG Company’s registering the name of ‘hellim’ as a trademark in all European countries’ was refused by the European Court.
Greek Cypriot daily Fileleftheros noted that South Cyprus lost their struggle but the Greek Cypriot Dairy Products Organization decided to search for all legal possibilities and to appeal against the resolution.
27th ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF TURKISH CYPRIOT CHAMBER OF INDUSTRY
The 27th Annual General Assembly of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry has been held with the participation of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Derviş Eroğlu.
President Eroğlu gave a speech in the assembly and expressed his appreciation to the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry and his desire for a consistently growing economy in the TRNC. Touching upon the Cyprus issue, President Eroğlu conveyed once again the Cyprus Turkish side’s demand of an immediate restart of the talks and a solution based on the UN parameters and added that they hoped a timetable would be determined for restarting the negotiation process at the dinner on the 29th 
May with the Greek Cypriot leader, Nicos Anastasiadis. The President underlined that if the Greek Cypriot side would not take steps forward for a solution the Cyprus talks would continue for another 40 years.
The President of the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry, Ali Çıralı, also made a speech and reminded that the chamber registered ‘hellim’ geographically both in North Cyprus and Turkey and they were still struggling for its registration in the EU. Çıralı pointed out that they registered ‘hellim’ both for the protection of cultural specialties and also for having advantages at the international area.
The Minister of Economy and Energy, Sunat Atun, also said in the assembly that water and electricity transfer from Turkey to the TRNC would reduce the costs in the industry sector and this would promote the export of the TRNC which is a need of a powerful economy.
TALAT: “GREEK CYPRIOTS SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THE NEED FOR A SOLUTION”
TRNC Former President, Mehmet Ali Talat, underlined that the Turkish side still believes that they need a solution and this is also valid for the Greek Cypriots. Pointing out that until today the Greek Cypriot side was not in need 
of a solution due to their United Nations and EU memberships Talat said that under the present conditions it had come out that this was not true.
Mehmet Ali Talat reiterated his opinion that if a solution was achieved, crisis would not be experienced in South Cyprus, and added that he did not agree with the opinion that if a solution was achieved, Turkish Cypriots would also go bankrupt.
Talat wondered why the EU has not perceived the collapse in Greece, Portugal and South Cyprus before, and added:
“The EU mechanisms related with the subject are not sufficient. EU authorities express that they will take lessons from the crisis and the necessary legal arrangements will be made. Taking lessons from the crisis and preventing its repetition is an obligation for a healthy EU structure.”
Stating that Turkey and Greece should certainly be in charge of the Cyprus issue, Talat expressed that the road should be opened for the guarantor countries to bring flexibility to the subject with broader interests.
Underlining that the involvement of the USA and the UK in the Cyprus problem was important, Talat said that Russia and France should be objective and more active in the Cyprus problem.
ALİ BABACAN: “CRISIS IN SOUTH CYPRUS IS RELATED WITH GREEK CYPRIOTS”
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, Ali Babacan, expressed that to allege the natural resources that belonged to all people living in Cyprus as an assurance for overcoming the 
problems of South Cyprus was unacceptable for Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and added that the rights arising from international law would be exercised in such circumstances. Babacan pointed out that all the problems concerning the accumulated debts and banking system were related with the Greek Cypriots.
Pointing out that the natural resources around the island belonged to all people in the island, Babacan expressed that Turkish Cypriots have equal rights on the natural resources around the island.
Babacan added that the rights arising from the international laws were going to be exercised in such circumstances and said:
“The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will exercise all rights arising from the international law. We have a strong position in terms of international law.”
