OZGURGUN DELIVERED A CONFERENCE ON “LATEST STAGE REACHED IN CYPRUS”

Stressing that it is impossible for the Greek Cypriot Administration to overcome the crisis which has been realized recently, Minister of Foreign Affairs Huseyin Özgürgün said that the “Greek Cypriots’ resisting the signing of an agreement with the Turkish Cypriots for years is obvious”.

Upon the invitation of the Rector of Karabuk University, Prof. Dr. Burhanettin Uysal, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Özgürgün delivered a conference on “The Latest Stage Reached iHüseyin Özgürgün  2n Cyprus” at the Karabuk University.

In the conference, Özgürgün, pointed out that despite all of the positive steps of the Turkish Cypriots relating to the negotiation process which has been continuing for years, the non-compromise attitude of the Greek Cypriots harms both the Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

Özgürgün stated that at the stage reached, the Greek Cypriot Administration’s joining the EU unilaterally can cause the bankruptcy rather than gaining any economic favour.

Özgürgün said that: “The Greek Cypriots paid a heavy price for joining the EU unilaterally”.

Stating that despite all of the embargoes being imposed on the Turkish Cypriots, the TRNC is standing strong with all her institutions and organizations by the support of motherland Turkey, Özgürgün said that the TRNC will be moving further with its growing economy.

Expressing that the Greek Cypriots have been passing through hard times because of the ineffective and wrong policies, Özgürgün said that: “The Greek Cypriot Administration has fallen on her sword…  It is obvious that the mentality that tries to ignore the Turkish Cypriots by over-emphasizing the EU has carried the Greek Cypriots to this point.”

TRNC Foreign Affairs Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün expressed that the economical crisis in South Cyprus makes the Greek Cypriots more fanatical and increases Turkish enmity.

 Minister Özgürgün said “Turkish flag was burned in South Cyprus a week ago by showing the economic crisis as an excuse. Recently, attacks have begun against the Muslim Turkish works. The mosques are burned, the Turkish works are destroyed. The reason is economical crisis. I hope they stop this mistake.”

Özgürgün stated that there are problems in the 12th Parcel which is on the direction of Egypt and said that Turks also have rights on these resources and the only way to transport the gas to Europe is via Turkey, even if the Greek Cypriots find that gas they do not have the right to take it out on their own.

Turkish President Abdullah Gül stated that there is a new government formed in the Greek President Abdullah Gül sml - Wikipedia pictureCypriot side and said: 

“If Turkish and Greek Cypriots re-start the negotiations in good will, we will assist them”.

Turkish President Abdullah Gül replied to the Turkish and foreign journalists in the joint press meeting following the meeting with President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite.
