PRIME MINISTER KÜÇÜK ATTENDS 49th LIBRARY WEEK IN ANKARA

Prime Minister of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus İrsen Küçük said automation started between the Near East University of North Cyprus, with 1112 libraries in Turkey, was an example of work carried out for integration with the Mother Land.

Küçük, attended the “Library Week” held at the National Library which has İrsen Küçükbeen celebrated every March in Turkey since 1964 in Ankara.

Küçük said with the automation system they were happy to contribute to Turkey and wished for more investment in culture.

Saying that TRNC and Turkey had non-profit relations, Küçük told that facilities of Turkey were for Turkish Cypriots and it’s North Cyprus’s duty to pave the way for the Mother Land.

Prime Minister İrsen Küçük also came together with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at a working lunch in Ankara. Stating that Turkish State Minister Responsible for Cyprus Affairs, Besir Atalay, also attended the meeting half an hour later, Kucuk said that they discussed the negotiation process which was broken off before the Presidential elections in South Cyprus and found an opportunity to discuss the Cyprus issue with the Turkish PM Erdogan in the light of the statements and evaluations of the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

TURKEY DISAPPROVE OF THE SOLUTION METHOD FOR SOUTH CYPRUS

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister, Ali Babacan, said that the solution method which imposes a tax on deposits in Greek Cypriot banks is not right on principle.

Babacan stated that Greek Cypriot banks accepted inappropriate deposits by Ali Babacanoffering Greek Cypriots a higher interest rate than market average.  This means that paying debt with debts which refers to ponzi intrigue’.

“The natural resources around the island belong to all people that live on the island in the framework of international law. Providing natural resources, that do not only belong to South Cyprus as a guarantee in any loan, is not a right way in terms of international law. The creditors already think about this issue. Even the Greek Cypriots say that they “pledge as collateral” if the Turkish Cypriots start to file a case in the future, this collateral becomes worthless and invalid.

EURO GROUP AGREED ON BAIL-OUT

Euro Group agreed on the 10 billion Euros bail-out regarding the Greek Cypriots side after a long meeting.

Deposits lower than 100.000 Euros will be under guarantee, but the deposits over Eurosthis amount will have to endure a major haircut. The first part of the 10 billion Euros “bail-out” of Euro Group is expected to be provided in early May.  

Under the terms of agreement of Greek Cypriot Administration with the European Union and IMF, the banks shall be categorized as “good banks” and “bad banks” and as a result of this South Cyprus’s second-largest lender bank Laiki Bank will close.

Answering the questions of The Guardian, a financier said that 99% of the customers demanded to take their money out from South Cyprus. The financier, who is offering counselling to a fund more than 100 million Euros, commented that “No matter what the government does, the economy of Cyprus is over. There is no trust any longer”.

On the other hand, Prime Minister of Germany Angela Merkel expressed her pleasure regarding the agreement reached on the economic problem of South Cyprus.

REPUBLIC’S ASSEMBLY SHALL BE REPRESENTED AT INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION 

A delegation from the Republic’s Assembly is attending the 128th Assembly of  the Inter- Parliamentary Union which will be held in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito.

A delegation from the TRNC Parliament is in the Ecuadorian capital, Quito to attend the 128th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union which is being held between the 22nd and 27th of March.

The delegation which is headed by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Mustafa Yektaoğlu, consists of the National Unity Party MPs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu and Mehmet Tancer, the Republican Turkish Party MP Sonay Adem and the Communal Democracy Party MP Hüseyin Angolemli.

The delegation will return to the Republic on Thursday, the 28th of March after completing contacts in Quito.
