Pancake Day at The Courtyard

Tuesday 12th February was Shrove Tuesday and the British tradition of pancake day was arranged by the Royal British Legion, The RaceKyrenia Branch, at the Courtyard Inn, Karakum.

The day started at 11am with a pancake race and 9 people had entered this, bringing with them their own pans and the pancakes were supplied by Mo at The Courtyard.  The object was to run around the circuit in the Courtyard grounds, tossing their pancakes as they went.   Unfortunately we were not able to get to the Courtyard in time for the race itself but we were told that there was a lot of fun and laughter as some of the pancakes missed the pan and fell onto the ground and had to be retrieved and tossed again.

The Courtyard had prepared pancakes and Mick Bone - Fastest Tosser awardcoffee for the people attending and I must say they did an excellent job as they were delicious and there were lemons and oranges available to add juice, and sugar for those with a sweet tooth.

We had a word with Mick Bone, who is an RBL standard bearer and he told us he had won “the Fastest Tosser” award and he had been presented with a certificate.   Other certificates were awarded to Gina Ryan - Slowest Tosser and Gareth Temple - Biggest TosserGareth Temple – “the Biggest Tosser” and Gina Ryan – “the Slowest Tosser”.  Well done all of you and thanks to Jan Marsh and her band of helpers for all their hard work in organising this event.

There was not a huge turnout for this first event but no doubt in the future it will be an annual event and more and more people will attend and also take part.
