Glad Rags – New Shop Opens

It was a double celebration for Ann Bosley who, besides having her birthday on Friday 18th January, also opened a new shop at the new offices of Kyrenia Animal Rescue in Karakum.This is Glad Rags and it is set up to sell better quality items of clothing and accessories, together with some bric-a-brac and household items.

The opening was at 9am on the 18th and during the day there was a steady stream of customers anxious to find a really nice dress or perhaps other items at a reasonable price and to also help KAR with their never-ending need for funds to care for the abandoned and unwanted animals of North Cyprus.

I visited in the afternoon and Ann said she was very pleased with their first day and they had done very well with sales.   I took the opportunity of looking at the racks of clothing which contained items for men as well as ladies and was very impressed with the quality of clothes for sale.   Of course I couldn’t resist buying a couple of garments and set myself up with a nice top and a lovely cocktail dress for that special occasion which may come along.   There is a nice fitting room with 2 mirrors so you can see yourself front and back.

The shop is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and there is good parking at the front and rear of the premises which are situated on the left hand side of the road coming from Girne just after you pass Çağra on the left and Upper Crust Bakery on the right.

I knew Ann has been associated with KAR for a long time and she said it is around 10 years with the last 7-8 being actively involved and about 6 years on the Executive Committee.  I expect Ann has seen a lot of changes in that time but she is certainly very dedicated to this charity and does a tremendous amount of work for it.

Ann showed us the storeroom where all of the items donated are kept for sorting which looked to me to be a monumental task but there are willing helpers and they manage to sort through everything very easily   I asked about donations of items and learned they are always looking for anything people have grown tired of and would like to donate, so if you have any unwanted clothing, bric-a-brac, household items, linens etc. please take them to the KAR office in Karakum.  If you need to speak to someone about something you would like to donate, please telephone – 0533 869 4098 or 0533 863 1950.

Time was getting on and we could see that Ann was longing to cut the chocolate cake which had been presented to her for her birthday and share it with the other staff so we went on our way with Happy Birthday wishes and good luck with the new venture – Glad Rags.
