Ladies Lunch – December

The Ladies Lunch group held its monthly get-together for December at the Ilgaz Club and there were 41 ladies attending what has become a very nice monthly event.

We all settled Enjoying the lunchdown to our pre-selected choices from the menu and had a chance to get to know the other people at our tables.   The food started to arrive and I think everyone always enjoys the high standard of cooking and presentation of the various dishes.   I, for one, can never find fault, in fact I would say the meals are exceptional.

There was no speaker for this month’s eventCookery demonstration and instead Sue of Ilgaz Club demonstrated how to make festive Chelsea Buns.   I think I may well have a go at making these at some time in the future.  Sue also showed us how to make a coffee liqueur similar to Baileys.  We all had a sample of the buns and the liqueur and they were absolutely delicious. See below for more pictures.

Gloria Tattersall and Mary Hughes do a lot of work to set up these monthly events and Gloria thanked Mary for all her hard work and presented her with a lovely potted plant.  A member of the group also asked for a vote of thanks to Gloria which received a huge round of applause.   Gloria went on to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and New Year and looks forward to seeing everyone again at the next event which will be held in February 2013.  There have been raffles at the past events for charities and at the moment there are 6 registered charities listed for support from the monthly ladies lunch events – Royal British Legion, Children in Need, Tulips, NCCCT, Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services, and KAR plus also the British Cemetery Committee.   A total of 1158TL has been raised for charity and Gloria said she was delighted with this result.   The breakdown was June – 270TL to RBL, July – 295TL to Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services, October – 278TL to KAR and November 315TL to the British Cemetery Committee.

The raffle followed and I was lucky enough to have 2 winning tickets.  There were some lovely prizes as usual and the proceeds of 320TL raised on this occasion will be going to the  Royal British Legion, Welfare Fund.

So, we have Christmas approaching and the ladies will be doing various things, maybe going back to the UK, dining out or dining at home and when we were all departing there were many good wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
