Christmas is Coming – With KAR

Here we are at the 1st December, and Christmas is definitely on its way with the start of all of the Kar festive events to come and Kyrenia Animal Rescue are among the forerunners with their Christmas Bazaar which was held at Teachers Hotel in Girne today.

When we arrived the room was heaving with people looking at all Some of the lovely items on offerof the goods on display, there were cards, decorations, gift items, clothes, shoes, books and lovely homemade goodies to take home or eat while you were there.  I missed out on the mince pies, they were soon all gone, but there were all types of cakes available.  I spotted a Christmas cake and decided to buy it as it is something I love to eat during the festive season, so on will go the pounds but thank you to whoever made it, when I eventually have a taste I am sure it is going to be lovely.

Who should be sat in the corner of the room but Santa Claus and the children were loving every minute of Will Santa bring what I asked forit.  I managed to sit with Santa for a few minutes to tell him what I wanted for Christmas – don’t suppose I will get it though!

Wandering outside to the terrace area, there were still more stalls with plants, toys and the KAR Education Team were there headed by MMaggie Smith - Education Teamaggie Smith who does an excellent job with her helpers going to schools etc. to educate children about how to care for animals.   There were a few puppies in a compound just begging for a nice home for Christmas, but don’t forget all of the other dogs and cats at the Centre whoPlease take me home would like to have somewhere nice to live as a companion or part of a family.

We  bumped into Caroline Attwood and also Beverley Westwood and Stephen Everett from KADS who were promoting their forthcoming production at the Culture Centre Theatre, which should be a date for the diary if not already booked.

During the course of the morning, raffle tickets were being sold for some fabulous prizes and near the end of the event the raffle was drawn by Santa with Master of Ceremonies, Alan Peek doing the honours with the microphone and announcing the winners.  There was a microwave oven, a bread maker, many meals for 2 at various restaurants, tandem paragliding, scuba diving and many more, I think there were in the region of 38 prizes in the raffle, all generously donated by local businesses and individuals.   If you were not able to stay to the end, the list of winning tickets will be available in the KAR new office in Karakum, as well as on their website and it will also appear in the local newspapers.

This was a very well organised and successful event and the results of KAR Christmas Bazaar will be published in our News in Brief article shortly.

After another ChLefkosa roundabout all lit upristmas event in Lefkoşa, which is another article to look out for, we made our way home in the evening and at the Girne turnoff we were welcomed by the wonderful Christmas display on the roundabout, this is a spectacular sight so well done Girne Municipality and I hope we will see many more illuminations heading into the town as  Christmas and  the New Year draw closer.
