Thank you from the Children in Need Foundation
The Children in Need Foundation Winter Ball, at the Cratos Premium Hotel on 16th November, was a huge success with 252 people attending and an amount of some 23,400 being raised from a combination of sponsorship, donations, the raffle and a new fundraiser for the first time “Winner Takes All” which gave the lucky winner 50% of the entire pot. On the night the winner received 2,250TL.
There were some fabulous raffle prizes, including a £400 laptop and a £200 Seiko watch which had been donated by the Little Society of Kyrenia. There was also a stunning watch necklace and diamond solitaire ring donated by Argold, and accommodation/meal packages from the Hideaway Club Hotel and the European Hotel in Famagusta, to name but a few.
CINF were very pleased that the Finance Minister Mr Ersin Tatar joined them, not only to regale the guests with a witty speech, but also to present the keys to the new 80,000TL Mini-Bus for the Special Needs Trade School in Lefkoşa that was on display outside at the front of the Cratos. For the record, we are informed that Mr Tatar and his table bought their own tickets for the Ball.
On the subject of the mini-bus, the CINF committee would like to thank John Torris for his herculean efforts in overcoming the red tape involved in securing an RHL plate for the mini-bus in time so it could be displayed at the Ball.
There was no official photographer, so the ever-willing Richard Halford took some 200 images with an SLR camera with the result that CINF will set up a link on their www.childreninneedfoundation.org website, so that by joining google+ one can share the images of friends and fellow Ball attendees, and download your own special memories of the evening. Together with this www.cyprusscene.com also recorded the event with an article, pictures, slideshow and voice recording of the speeches. To read this article click here
Although we were not officially at the Ball, we spent some time in the ballroom to take photographs and get the feeling of the occasion for our article. From what we saw, I would think everyone was having a tremendous time and this was enhanced by the wonderful entertainment by The Manhattans Soul & Motown Tribute Band.
