Events Calendar – Issue 2

16th September 2012

Between  10th September – 17th October Bellapais International North Cyprus Music Festival.  All concerts start at 8.30pm.  Tickets 30TL from Deniz Plaza, The Dome Hotel. Bellapais Gardens Hotel, Kybele Restaurant and the Abbey Box Office.

The Heartbeat Shop next to Girne State Hospital will re-open at 10.00am on Monday 17th September. The shop will be open as normal on Mon/Thu/Fri/Sat every week.

17th September – Monday  “ Friends “ Line Dancers Classes restart at The Punjab in LaptaImprover / intermediate level. 
18th September – Tuesday Auditions will be taking place at 7.30pm at the Girne Culture Centre Theatre with Director Lawrie Oxley for a new play “Haywire” by Eric Chappell.  If there are any budding actors or actresses out there, go along and see if you can take part in this new KADS play.
19th September – Wednesday “Friends Line Dancers – The Punjab, Lapta  Beginner Level.   Times  10:00 am – 12:00 noonFor more information   Tel:   0533 8215185 / 0542 8820366 
19th September – Wednesday The Children in Need Foundation will be holding a Supper Club Event at the Colony Garden with entertainment by Diane Shaw, a top UK Soul Singer. There will be a 3-course meal and drinks are included. Tickets are £45 or 125TL per head and will be available from the Colony Garden Reception from the 24th August. Coach transport will be available from Karşiyaka with pick up points along the way and arrangements for this should be made with Laurence Floyd at floydlaurence@googlemail.com
22nd – 23rd September Saturday and Sunday Çatalkőy Belediyesi Cultural FestivalOn the 22nd – there will be a wide range of events including folk dancing, children’s games, food competition, street theatre, sculpture and many more.  From 10am to 23.00.  On the 23rd from 11am – a free painting competition, photo contest award ceremony, butcher and flour sifters.   All of this will reach the highlight at 21.00 of a fashion show created by the renowned designer Abdullah Őztoprak which will be a thrilling finale to the 2-day event. Expatriates are encouraged to attend in their National costume to add further atmosphere to this Festival. To see more about this festival – where there are more links to the programme pages.
24th September –Monday Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services – Quiz Night at 7.30pm at The Ravine, Alsancak.   Richard and Brenda will be on form with the questions, teams of 4 are ideal but the bonus/penalty scheme allows for smaller or larger teams.  15TL per person includes a fish & chip or chicken shish and salad supper.  Book at Lambousa Market or telephone Brenda on 0533 840 1834 or Jenny on 0533 876 1483
26th September – Wednesday  KAR will be holding a summer fund-raising lunch at the Midsummer House, Catalkőy starting at 1pm. Tickets are 35TL per person and can be obtained from the KAR stall at Lambousa Market on Saturdays, from their office, or telephone 0533 8694098.
29th September –Saturday The Foreign Residents (TFR) will be holding their Annual General Meeting at 11.30am at the Almond Holiday Village, Alsancak. There will be a buffet lunch after the meeting – members 25TL, guests at the restaurant price. Reservations for the lunch must be made by 20th September by calling Heinz Nauroth on 0533 877 3076 or Horst Gutowski on 0533 845 0923
29th September – Saturday Olive Press Flat Green Bowling, Lapta “The 29th September is the eve of our World Cup Final so come and party in style with the wonderful Al August Jnr – starts at 8.30pm.  Free entry for all – hope to see you all on the night!!!!!!!!!!”   See World Cup
1st October – Monday

The Royal British Legion (RBL) Kyrenia Branch is soon to celebrate its first anniversary To mark the occasion a ‘three in one’ event has been planned and will take place at the Deniz Kizi Hotel in Alsancak on Monday evening October 1st commencing at 6pm. To obtain pre-booked tickets – contact Pamela Padden on: 0533 873 6876 or by email at: events@rblkyrenia.com or collect from the RBL stall at the Lambousa market or at the door on the night. The dress for the event is smart casual.

6 pm – Reception –tickets can be collected for the 2012 Poppy Ball, and collect new membership cards and also renew annual RBL branch membership

7.30pm – Branch Meeting (members only)

8.30 pm Curry supper followed by a talk by ex ITN cameraman Gary Mullins – “Behind the Lens” (open to members @ 20TL and non-members @ 25TL

2nd – 7th October Tuesday to Saturday  Zeytinlik Olive Festival.  Always a good event to attend.
4th to 7th October Thursday to Sunday   A retreat weekend at Bűyűkkonuk has been organised by Tarik Tekman for the practice of Qigong, Tai Chi and Meditation. For further details contact Tarik on 0533 8418000 or email tariktekman@gmail.com
6th October – Saturday Yaz Bitti Music Festival in association with the Black Olive Café and Alsancak Belediye in aid of Alsancak’s under-privileged children and sponsored by Bestseller Bookstores.  There will be live music acts from 3pm till late, festival stalls, food will be available and the bar will be open.  Tickets can be purchased from Bestseller Bookstore in Alsancak at 10TL per person (adults). Under 16’s free.
9th October – Tuesday

NCCCT Coffee Morning at the Mountain View Hotel 10.30am to mid-day. 
10th October – Wednesday Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services. Afternoon Tea Talk at The Mountain View Hotel at 3pm. 12th October – Friday Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services – Auntie Plantie presents a 60’s gig at the Mountain View Hotel. 7.30pm -late.  Invitations at 50TL per person which includes supper and all local drinks from 8pm – 11pm.  Book at Lambousa Market or telephone Brenda on 0533 840 1834 or Jenny on 0533 876 1483
20th October – Saturday The Olive Press, in conjunction with the Royal British Legion, are proud to offer all members the opportunity to join us for a special night of entertainment. For more details click Talk by Major Brian Thomas MBE (Ret’d)
31st October – Wednesday    The Olive Press – Halloween from 4.30pm . For more details click Halloween 
2nd November –  Friday RBL Kyrenia Branch will be holding their Poppy Ball at the Cratos Premium Hotel in Catalkoy, starting at 7.30pm. This is open to members and guests. A deposit of 30TL will be required when booking which can be done at Lambousa Saturday Market. There will be a coach from Karsiyaka on a first come first served basis. Discounted accommodation is offered by the Cratos and reservations should be made by contacting Jacqui Smith at the Cratos on 0533 8203105
16th November – Friday Children in Need Foundation (CINF) Winter Ball at the Cratos Premium Hotel, Çatalkőy.  The Manhattans will be performing their fabulous tribute act.  Further details to be published later.
18th November – Sunday Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services are organizing a Treasure Hunt around Girne, starting with a meal at Café George in the Plaza area.  This should be a good fun day. More details to follow later.

    1. Thank you for your kind comments. OUr blog site is very new with 2/3 writers providing great and very interesting information on a daily basis. Thanks should be given to wordpress.com for their system from which we have been able to create our “cypcusscene” world for the world to see.

      After only a few weeks we were invited to BRT2 the local TV channel and took part in a TV interveiw which was shown last weekend. We are very proud of what we have been able to achieve and are commited to do even more to share our local news with the world.
